Recordings work unreliably, usually fail with "the destination library or location did not exist"

I converted over from MythTV to Plex DVR but am very disappointed with how unreliable the scheduling is. About 80% of the time, I get no recordings. When I login to my account online to check on recordings, I get an error message saying:

The destination library or location did not exist.

This is a simple setup with a single hard-drive running LInux Mint, plexmediaserver and a directory to hold recordings on the same drive. No NFS mounts or powered-down drives. The system has power management disabled. Using an HDHomerun Connect for a dual networked tuner.

Manually scheduling a recording from the Guide for a show that is currently airing seems to work. The scheduling is intermittent.

Looked through the media server logs, I get the same error message above. It is preceded with a WARNing that says “couldn’t get target root path for subscription”.

Any suggestion on things to try? Thanks.
