First, thanks in advance to you all.
I’m having an issue with the plex app on Xiaomi Mi Box S with Android 9 - when I’m trying to enable the refresh rate switching in settings to on, it causes the player to stuck on the initial loading spinner indefinitely.
Steps I’ve tried so far to solve this with no success:
Device restart
App re-install
Server restart
Settings changes: Switched the new player off; Enabled Passthrough; Adjusted H264 maximum level; Video quality.
Try different types of videos and content.
Points to consider:
The main reason I want to enable refresh rate switching is that it’s the only way that helps videos to play smoothly on my Samsung 4K TV. Without that setting on, I experience juddering in most videos. I use a similar setting on other apps (such as Kodi) and don’t have an issue with it).
My setup works perfectly fine for me other than this issue.
I have another Android TV box (Ugoos AM6 Plus) that works with this plex setting just fine. However, the issue is not necessarily coming from the Mi Box S since other apps on Mi Box S are able to switch frame rate without a problem.
I’m playing videos directly without trying to transcode them on the server.
Please let me know if there is more useful info I should provide?
Any suggestions on how to fix this?
Server Version#: 1.19.3.2852 (FreeBSD - FreeNAS)
Player Version#: kepler-arm64v8a-googlePlay-stdExo-8.1.0.17967-3dbad729
I have the same problem since Mi Bos S was updated to Android 9. The rest of the applications that support automatic refresh change work perfectly.
If while the circle is rotating indefinitely on the screen, it changes from the player to Adjust quality automatically, and again to original quality, the video is played, with automatic refresh change.
Automatic refresh change is very important to remove judder and artifacts on screen.
Thanks for confirming. I tried out the workaround of switching quality and it worked for some content and for some content it caused the plex app to crash once the refresh rate switched.
I assume there is not much to do about it and it involves both Xiaomi and plex issues that need attention.
I also came across an app that supposes to do the refresh rate switch automatically for other apps, but I can’t seem to get it to work on Mi Box S since this device does not allow native network debugging. I think that this app is meant for Nvidia Shield.
Apparently there is no simple solution for this issue and a proper fix is needed for this either by plex or Xiaomi. At least for my setup.
Hi,
I use the Refresh Rate app and it works fine. I use it to watch European TV in 50 Hz. You can set a fixed fps, the change does not work depending on the content. The problem is that if you put Plex or Netflix at 24fps, the interface is very slow, hence the importance of correcting the automatic refresh in the Plex app.
Yep, I can confirm that this app can statically switch the refresh rate, which is not very different than the resolution and refresh rate selector in the native display settings of the TV Box.
I’m not sure how others are handling it because the auto refresh rate switching is a crucial feature on my setup. Without it it is not practical to use plex.
Hello, same here, this is very annoying…
It is possible to force AFR if you switch manually at beginning of the playback, but if you don’t, you will have infinite loop…
Just realized the same after opening another thread (Automatic quality won't play untill I turn it off and on) . I didn’t notice it before since plex would automatically transcode all my videos due to the subtitles burning issue, and apperantly this issue doesn’t happen for me when transcoding.
Known issue.
I read on the interwebs (https://www.reddit.com/r/MiBox/comments/jb42pl/new_beta_rolling_out_for_mi_box_s4k/) that the latest Box S beta (OTA4 BETA0) resolves the issue,
could be so, I haven’t try it myself.
Patiently awaiting for xiaomi to release it as a stable update.
It seams xiaomi is aware of the issue.
In the mean time, it would be nice if a plex dev. could grok a work-around for mi boxes.
Other apps (looking @ netflix…) seem to do afr just fine.
Mi Box S update r-3139 is hitting distribution now as a stable update.
In my case it resolves auto-frame-rate issues.
Plex now successfully switches tv-set to content frame rate.
