Regression: Browse not remembering filter/sort order

Same as Live TV & DVR > Browse not remembering filter and sort order - 4.87.2 and the previous 1-2 versions have started forgetting filter/sort order again.

Here’s a screenshot of the default filter. I had previously selected Movies and it keeps reverting to Episodes.

Server Version#: 4.87.2 (and hosted web app 4.90.1)
Player Version#: N/A
Tuner Make/Model: N/A
Guide/Lineup name: N/A
Using XMLTV?: N/A
Channel number/Name: N/A

More digging: Looks like normal libraries (which DO remember tabs), when tab/sort is changed, make an expected POST to https://plex.tv/api/v2/user/settings?sharedSettings , but the Live TV & DVR page does not POST to that endpoint at all.

Do you still see the same if you’re using the hosted web app?

Yep - It now seems consistently broken in the hosted web app and Plex for Windows whilst previously only being broken in the Plex v5 app for Tizen / XBox / HTPC.

It seems that neither the Live TV & DVR tabs or the filter/sort are remembered even though the “Remember selected tab” option is set :frowning:

I don’t have a DVR at hand – selected tab and filters of regular libraries seem to be remembered alright on my setup. Cannot reproduce this…

Yes regular libraries are fine - it is only a problem in the Live TV & DVR library :frowning:

Can confirm, hosted web app has the same problem in the Live TV & DVR library.

Tried toggling “Remember selected tab” off and on, but the same problem still occurs - it reverts to Episodes instead of my selected Movies. Reproduced in both Safari and Chromium-based browsers, in both normal mode and incognito/private mode. And I’m positive this used to work a few versions ago.

It appears 4.84.1 and 4.85.1 made some updates in the Live TV sections - that might have been when this regressed.

In some respects it is good that the functionality is now aligned between the hosted web app / Plex for Windows code base and the Plex for Tizen / XBox / HTPC (and presumably Playstation et all) code base

In those clients this functionality hasn’t worked for the last 2 years - since the v5 client was introduced !!

This is intentional for Live TV. The guide has been historically the focus of this source and so we are intentionally making the guide the default pivot when navigating to the Live TV source. As a secondary effect Live TV won’t remember filters/sorts.

Whilst I can understand the guide being the focal point for Live TV can I please ask you to please reconsider this decision with any of the following for example:

  1. Revert the recent change and have the current “Remember selected tab” work across Live TV & DVR - If a user wants the Guide as the default they will leave it as the default.
  2. Have an additional option just for Live TV and DVR to “Remember the selected tab”
  3. Implement an option on a per library basis to “Remember the selected tab”

The latter is the most flexible for users, but I would be extremely happy with any of my suggestions  Otherwise the current option should be renamed to Remember selected tab (except for Live TV & DVR) as having that one library not honour this setting is counter-intuitive.

This is more of an issue for me as I never use the Browse tab for anything other than movies so I always have to change the filter :frowning:

On a slight tangent, you could argue that the browse feature has some overlap with the new show type filter in the guide but it in my opinion it provides an easier to navigate view (as I can see movies that are scheduled for 2 weeks time without having to scroll through 2 weeks of guide data.

Whilst I only use it for movies, some users might like to see that list expanded to include the same categories “Entertainment”, “Movies”, “Reality”, “News & Opinion” etc… as the guide.

Can you please let us know which version was the last version where filters/sorts were remembered in Browse view? I’d like to downgrade to that and stop upgrading.

@captain_caveman2k Raised this with the devs managing this area of the app.

@eperitus It’s not that simple. The bundled web app that comes with PMS is not updated on every PMS build and instead gets a large version bump after a longer period of time. So there isn’t really a specific version to point to that would bring back this functionality on the bundled web app without going further back. PMS 1.25.9.5721 (April 2022) shows a web bump to 4.76.1 which may get your there but at the cost of all the fixes and improvements between then and now. The next bundled web bump is where we are now at 4.87.2. That’s just Web… and I’m assuming you’re referring to Web.

Depending on the other client apps you may not have a way to go back to a specific version unless you kept or have access to that installer. The major changes around our Guide happened in February 2022 with this announcement.

So while the situation for you kind of sucks now, sorry about that, lets see what we can do in the future to remedy this.

Thank you both for your input.
