Regular File Storage - Similar to FTP

There must already be a way to do this - obviously sharing and streaming media files is more complicated than a folder share for office files - .doc .xls .pdf .txt etc. etc. into infinity. With or without a preview function. Anyone else with this need or am I trodding on holy ground here?

Sure would help me a lot - running a separate NAS / FTP is a huge waste of time.

Any help - greatly appreciated.

I’m not sure what you are asking for.

I need to share (upload&download) non media files that are not already on the list of supported plex file extensions here:

I do not need to stream/play/preview or tag meta data for these files at this time.

I’ll be honest and say that will likely never happen as Plex has no interest in being a general file uploader/downloader. There are a million other apps to do that.

I agree - it’s a downgrade. So no reason to remove that functionality unless the intent of Plex is to hamstring itself in order to provide opportunities for other developers, at my expense, but I can still see why Plex might do this.

Remove? It won’t scan in files it can’t play like ISO disk images. Because then folks expect them to play. because not everyone reads support docs

Just to throw this in… there’s already an existing feature suggestion from some years ago asking for an option to organize non-media file in Plex (e.g. making them available to others for sharing/downloading/…). So far the suggestion has zero votes.

Beyond the confusion(?) of this having been removed (I’ll leave that to BigWheel) – if you want to keep the suggestion going, you might as well comment/vote in the existing thread in order to avoid distracting/cannibalizing votes with 2 suggestions competing for the same feature.

I’m closing this because OP commented on other older one linked above and there does not need to be two.
