[Feature Request] Non media file recognization

More and more I find myself becoming more invested into my plex server. Especially given that I am managing a network of 6 local devices and at least 4 or more remote devices. I would like to see in the future Plex add the ability to become a more complete file server that can recognize files other than video, audio, image files.

For example it would be nice if it recognized zipped files at the very least,(though things like text files would be common, logical and practical as well) so that you can use the server to upload on one device, then download on another. Especially if it can be done across a local network via the established router and without actually having to cross the internet boundary. It would make my life so much easier to have one massive “storage” computer for all my files then not have other devices being bogged down with redundancy as I could obtain the files only when I need them.

Just my personal suggestion that fits my situation, though it seems like one that would be practical enough to merit adding and functional enough that people would have desire for it. Hope it gets investigated and thanks for considering.

Agreed, and then some.

There’s clearly a process for making this happen over time.

Will have to stick with boring old FTP, SFTP etc etc. Can’t rely on outside servers all the time and still need file transfer between clients on the intranet.

Most people probably just run a NAS with file transfer software already. Just hate to get bulkier.
