Reinstalling after a year away

I did dig though a good bit of the forum topics already and didn’t see anything that looked like an exact fit the for the issue. So it this has been discussed frequently let me apologize first.

A Bit Of Background.

I’m returning to plex after 1.5 years on Embly.
The version that I WAS in was PlexMediaServer-1.16.3.1402-22929. I had uninstalled plex when I move platforms.

I signed in with my account and DL’ed and installed PlexMediaServer-1.20.3.3437. Right away something was off, it went straight to updating media and bypassed me telling it what folder / Drive letter to search in.

I never see the Server listed in devices. Just my instances of Chrome I’m access the server with. It is a dedicated media server running Win 10 Ver 2004
When I go to My media on my local install and wants to install the plex server software.

As for your issue… uninstalling Plex does not delete the actual server data. So from the perspective of the newly installed Plex Media Server, things were already in place so it simply started to refresh.

Could it be you had been using a different Plex account before your 1.5 year break?
If so that’ll give you basically 2 options:

1. Unlink the Plex Media Server installation from the old account but keep its existing configuration

This will delete the registry keys containing the information that link the Plex Media Server to your (old?) account. After completing these steps and opening the server through its local IP address (e.g. http://127.0.0.1:32400/web if you’re on the same machine) you can sign the server with your (new?) Plex account. This will keep existing libraries in place.

2. Start over by deleting all existing data

This support article describes how to get rid of your existing Plex Media Server configuration for good by deleting the Plex Media Server data directory as well as all relevant registry information. After performing this procedure you’ll start from scratch with a new “vanilla” server.

If you made a lot of changes to your system and don’t mind losing your 1.5 years old watch history you might as well go with #2

YES! Thanks tom80H!! That seems to have done the trick

Uninstalled Plex
Removed the Reg Key
Deleted 2+ GB out of that appdata\local plex folder.

Rebooted
Reinstalled and now it DID! ask for the media loacations and I could add my three libraries.
Movies
TV Shows and Anime.

IT’s indexing the files now as we speak!
