The ability to play a piece of media on repeat has been basic functionality on media players since before the dawn of the internet. It is as fundamental to the media experience as the pause button. I had it on my cassette player in 1982 but I no longer have it in my Plex client in 2025. VLC has it, Jellyfin has it, YouTube has it. I and others could state use cases for repeat, but it feels unnecessary; everyone knows what repeat is for, and everyone has used it. To wake up one day and find it gone was a bizarre and incomprehensible experience.
The decision to remove the Repeat functionality is so arbitrary and needless as to appear almost spiteful. Please reinstate it.
Okay so it isn’t just me then. I’m on iPhone and it’s gone for me too! This is literally the most ridiculous thing to remove from a player’s functionality. I too, use plex to pop on a show or a playlist of movies to sleep to and have it on a loop in case 4 movies isn’t enough for me to fall asleep on. I didn’t even think removing the loop/repeat button on a player was possible, as it is just imbedded into the fabric that makes a media player. It’s genuinely annoyed by this and am thinking of canning plex as well over this. It’s unfortunate, but if they do this and their services are still as subpar as they have been…not really sure what I’ve got this app for anymore.
It’s interesting they removed a relatively simple function that is highly used by many. Adding this feature back to mobile app will certainly bring major benefits to those of us that use it regularly. Plex, we beg you, please bring this feature back in the next update! Thank you!
I’ve been waiting for this to come back. The android app mostly works OK for me now, but the absence of repeat is very annoying. Why did they remove it - it can’t be that hard to add back in.
Today was the first day I used the app. Just wanted a basic photo slideshow displayed on my Google TV using pictures on a small NAS. The absence of a repeat function essentially makes the app useless, so good chance my first day will be my last day using the product. I was originally optimistic about using the app for other stuff too.
Does anyone know if this is a “we won’t fix this” problem, or “we just haven’t gotten around to putting the repeat control back yet” thing.
I find it really annoying that it’s gone - although it would help with my patience if I knew it was just something that plex haven’t gotten around to implementing in the new apps just yet.
