It took forever to get repeat in the builtin music player in Plex, leaving it crippled for years, and now there’s a new great looking app just for playing music and lo and behold it lacks this most basic of features. I’m in disbelief.
Ok, yes, it’s from Labs… but still. Is this an oversight, a misguided design choice, an organization wide conspiracy against repeat mode at Plex, Inc., a strongly opinionated member of the dev team, or what?
PS. If anyone is looking for some side income please get in touch. The position involves hitting “play” many many many many many many many many many times a day for very little pay.
I use the warp core engine ambient sound of the Enterprise (Star Trek TNG) playing in the background while working. Helps me focus. Although I could loop the audio files 50 times to extend the length, I would rather have a shorter sample of the audio (lower file size) and just repeat it.
Killer use-case? Why does there have to be anything other than “I want the music to repeat when it gets to the end rather than having to take my phone out of my pocket/switch back to the plexamp app on my desktop and press play again”. I would appreciate this particularly now when I’m trapped working from home and I just want the music to play over and over until I say it stops.
I guess my killer repeat use-case is for when I’m really loving a specific song or album and just want to keep listening to it over and over again. Let’s say one of your favorite artists has just released a new album or a new song and you wanna blast it while driving around or relaxing in bed. Instead of having to hit the back button after every listen, just having a a toggleable repeat button to select would be really nice. That way you don’t even need to touch your device to enjoy a specific song or album over and over again.
Is there an ETA on the implementation of the repeat button? Looks like it’s been years now with no update, just “some point” on multiple posts.
Total first world problem BUT a single toggle for repeat would be nice to have indeed. While working I like listening to something in the background, and having to add the song dozens of times via “play next” is rather annoying. A single toggle for repeat on, then setting it on the charger should be all that i need to do. Not having to hit “play next” over and over and over again until I’m ready for another song or leave.
My use case for this is my kids. My son can listen to the same song over and over and over. So a repeat function is very much needed for those of us with kids.
I jumped ship from Google’s music services because they enforce a way of listening to music upon their customers (e.g. no true shuffle mode, always a “themed” algorithmically generated playlist). Please be better than that, Plex.
It’s mind-boggling that features that were available in Winamp about a quarter of a century ago are missing from so-called “modern” music players.
I came to this forum to find out where it is - I just assumed that I couldn’t find the button! I didn’t even consider that a modern music app wouldn’t have this basic feature. Please add it - it’s annoying to keep having to open the app up to replay a song every time.
Mine is that I listen to music all the time when working, and don’t want to have to get my phone out of my pocket every time I want to replay the playlist or album I want to listen to repeatedly if that playlist or album is too short to fill all of the time I’m going to be working with one play.
Another use case here. Occassioally you encoutner an ear worm song you need to listen to over and over again to get it out. I would love to pop that on Repeat and not have to switch to the app and press play every three minutes interupting my workflow on the project I am working on.
