So go to this link, On the 1st step skip to the “Automatic” section, that’ll be easier for you
Windows Central: Plex Setup On Synology Nas
you may still need to figure out your IP for the NAS, but this should get you most of what you need. I didn’t read through the whole thing, so ask if you have any questions or issues

You absolutely did!
I think im almost there. I have followed the directions and have the key installed. I know my IP address for my NAS, just need to sort out how to open it without using “quickConnect”…

I dont understand how to open the plex server if I cant connect via QuickConnect. Im sure there is a different way to access this package?
Thanks for your help thus far!
go to your browser & type the IP address. That’s it. just the 4 sets of 1-3 numbers seperated by periods. (192.168.65.118 or whatever, just like that. You could type http://192.168.12.47 if you prefer) if you type that you should get the login screen for your NAS

I did that, and did not work. The site “took too long to respond”. Tried on two web browsers.
Maybe I have some network/firewall issues?
In case it’s of help, May I offer a full Synology setup guide which I authored?
Installation and Setup of Plex Media Server on Synology
This How-To is in multiple parts to make it easier to find whichever specific step you’re looking for.
If you’re new to Plex then reading this thread in sequence is probably the best approach.
This will show you how to install Plex on your Synology and then suggest a couple ways you can organize your media.
Please remember,
You’re always free to do it any way which makes sense to you.
We only ask you take the common pitfalls into con…
you may have the wrong address or you are not on the same network. if you are on a phone make sure you are connected to wifi

Note: I have a VPN on my router and cannot turn it off without loosing my internet. That could be causing an issue?
Plex and VPNs do not work well together unless you write custom rules.
May I ask what causes you to lose internet if you turn off the VPN ?
What is the data flow paths here?
Our OP is not tech savvy. They probably have no idea what you are talking about but you are definitely only confusing them by using terms like “Data Flow Paths”
I appreciate you adding the guide, but it’s too complicated with too much “tech” for it to be helpful to them

I did command prompt and got my IPv4 address, typed that number into the URL and says “unable to connect”.
So frustrating!

Can I just sign into plex via web browser or does it have to be through the NAS plex app?
not command prompt. open Chrome, Firefox, Opera, Even Edge or Internet Explorer (Only if you have no other options)
Once it’s setup you won’t have to go onto the NAS app like ever
Try:
http://nas_ip_address:5000
or
https://nas_ip_address:5001
Ex: http://192.168.1.100:5000
May I ask the ultimate dumb question ?
What does setting it up on the Synology provide that setting up on Windows doesn’t ?
I’m asking because:
Most PCs have way more CPU power than Synology NAS boxes
VPNs on Windows are trivial and largely automatic.
Setting up Plex on a Windows machine, reaching across the LAN to grab the media is a VERY normal thing.
