Releasing the new app was a crazy decision

Okay I’m not sure it was the best idea to retire the experience preview as the people who are likely to give you the best feedback are the people who still have access to and use the old app.

The idea of replacing the stable apps with the beta version and not being able to go back to the old experience is… not the choice I’d have made.

I check in on the last preview quite a bit, but if now that’s going to die idk man. It’s a hard sell to use the beta with no fallback.

A real shame. Guess I’ll keep auto updates off and wait for the inevitable fallout from the Apple TV release. Auto updates off on the iPhone too.

This is horrible. It’s time to move to Jellyfin. I only use the Plex for myself at this point, what a waste of 11 years. Holy crap man.

It’s like they hired Patrick Frigging Spence who helped the downfall of Rim/Blackberry then went on to destroy Sonos and a year later Sonos is languishing from their naked greed and arrogance. Shareholders are screaming as are all the once loyal/revenue generating users/customers.

There aren’t many alternatives for Sonos but there are PLENTY of alternatives to Plex.
Good bye and so long as this household just canceled our Apple Plex Pass annual subscription renewal. Greed is NOT good after all you shumcks in the Plex c-suite!

I cannot download content anymore after upgrade to 2025.12.0 (966828368) Android
Also, there’s no theme song.
The app is laggy and buggy.

Is the app out on android or still in beta?

I cannot get any EPG data and I can find no way to even set a DVR recording.

Going back and rereading their accountment about remote play pass and remote play not being a free feature after april 29th it states in that announcement that this change will affect the future release o the new user experience. I’m thinking that is why they pushed this out unfinished. This is the version that makes remote play a paid feature so need it out by april 29th when they goes into effect.

The phone upgraded my app a few days ago. One of the primary feauters I use is to cast tv-shows to my bedroom tv. Since the update i cant no longer find any of my devices when trying to cast. Been using plex and has plex pass since 10 years ago.

But since the buissness model is faulty. And they grasping for money, with bad development as result. I start to look at jellyfin. It’s open source, but they at least manage to make casting work. And they dont get payed…

i dont even have the new app on my andoid phone (s24ultra). I came back to plex after a pause of 3 years. it seems things got worse. 265 transcoding and the development of plexamp are the only positiv things that happend since then. this is not good!!
the very good thing is that the amazing ottokerner still is amazing and doing all the work in this forum. he is the mvp!

The Android version is jut as bad, if you select Live TV you just get the spinning circle of death, then your only thing you can do i keep stopping the phone from timing out, until the app eventually shows the channel guide, doing anything else like selecting a different menu, or pressing the back button crashes the phone, and you have to restart the phone.

True. It’s also not using the in player brightness control, rather using devices brightness slider. And no audio boost too.

Absolutely agree. The new app is horrid and a huge black eye for Plex as a company. To make matters worse, battery drain is so bad Plex is unusable.

To many changes and none wanted - bring back MY home screen - also now no music? dealbreaker :frowning: my autistic child loved and lived on this app - now ALL CHANGE so they can’t use it and nothing is intuitive - major changes like this should never happen , you won’t know the pain you cause to a child that can’t understand….

They split off the Music and Photos into separate apps. PlexAmp for music has been available for a few years and is very good. Plex Photos is still very new and (i hope) in active development.

grrr also cannot delete files from the app

I hope that essential feature will return

This new app is a UX disaster, and you’re not doing enough QA.

Getting rid of the sidebar is an absolute crime.

PlexAMP is also a UX disaster. A desktop app that looks like a mobile app? Stuff buried in menus, forcing you to choose separate sources for music, when the browser doesn’t?

Hadn’t opened the app on my phone for a few weeks as I have been home so I didn’t see the update until just now while I’m on the road and need to use plex. The app is fully broken. Not even a question of the horror show that this new UX is, I literally can’t get it to work. My libraries are not loading and the app just freezes until I force quit. The Live TV feed is not showing any icons or anything that it is getting from my Xteve tuner. Unfortunately, sideloading the old version is tricky process and I can’t do it unless I am at home, so I’m left with an unusable Plex server for the time I actually need it. This has to be the most disastrous app rollout I have ever seen. Again, not a question of just the lost features, but the fact it is essentially unusable!

I appreciate the need to consolidate the codebase, but roll back to the legacy version and launch a new one so we can run both side-by-side. The community will help you with testing and development of the new app if you treat us with respect. I’ll gladly run both and do testing and file bug reports as long as I have a working app to fall back to. Then once you have it debugged you can kill off the legacy app. For now I will side load and run the old version but that is not easy to do on iOS and it means I have to disable automatic updates.
