Releasing the new app was a crazy decision

The App Store shows “most helpful” ones first by default so it still shows older more rated reviews. As well leaving reviews on the new update people should choose the “Most Recent” sorting option and be sure to press and hold on each review that you find useful and hit the “Helpful” button. That will ensure more recent, helpful and accurate reviews start to receive prominence on the App Store listing by default. I’ve been going through the recent reviews and rating the most helpful ones.

Really seems like they are using this UI change to force out their core user base due to the legal issues it raises, likely limiting the media distributors willing to deal with them, and push people to their content as “just another streaming and VOD service” but that would require a MASSIVE downscale in their users because 99% of us dont want their content, we want OUR content.

I’m transitioning my family to another platform, despite the FOSS alternative still missing some features and it’s less mature user management their interfaces are DEAD SIMPLE to navigate and CUSTOMISABLE for each user.

This is ridiculous. I’m usually all for active development and new features, but this update was terrible. Most of the time I’m using the app to watch Live TV. It’s right in the middle of the bottom like I’m supposed to be use it. But navigating that interface takes literal minutes. It looks like it would be slick if it were responsive, but it’s not. At all. I’m on a Pixel 8 Pro, it’s not a slow device. But this interface is literally unusable to the point that I’m adding to this list of complaints.

Plex team, who the heck approved this to be released to the public??

And still waiting for Live TV to include (bring back) the DVR Schedule and Recording Priority for OTA/HDHR

Adding my 2 cents, this is your Sonos moment Plex Team. I’ve used your software for a decade, I help design software for a living and approve releases… I literally got completely stuck setting up the new IPad app for a relative this evening. If I didn’t know where to go for adding a library to the home screen, what chance did my elderly aunt have?

Changes this drastic even IF they were the right product decisions, should have been telegraphed for MONTHS. Even if the UI/UX was fantastic, which it sure as ■■■■ isn’t, such drastic changes should have been fed to users not forced down their throats.

Fail all around, failed new app back end (slower), failed new app UI/UX wise, failed release handling and now failed response to backlash.

Do better.

If they wanted to get rid of personal media they would just cut the feature, not spend a year rewriting a crummy new version of the feature.

This release is so poorly executed that I am sure there is some kind of internal drive that we are not aware of… But I really don’t think they are trying to get rid of us, when they could have done that easily and decisively.

I think something else is going on.

This is a joke. I’m starting my migration to Emby.

And for people saying that photos and music have their own apps: the photos app is a disaster. It constantly freezes and the UI is a hot pile. They didn’t even bother to work on it to at least implement a third of the functionality of the old photos library experience from the old app before they rush to release this “new plex experience.”

Since this fateful release, there has been 2 new updates for iOS.
NONE of the crippling bugs users are reporting online were addressed.
Worse than that, on a M1 iPad, it added more bugs and erratic behaviors.
PiP works like ****, the vast majority of times it just plays background audio absent the video.
The video stutters, crashes very often and resume playback where needed but sometimes randomly prior to this.
This is added to everything noted previously, and yet we have two tone-deaf release notes leaving you wondering if they are even using their App.

Same here. New app can’t access the server because server software needs to be updated first. Except the server is a WD MyCloud home device, which can’t be updated manually! Also no access to my music library anymore? (And no, I don’t want to use a separate app like Plexamp for this.)
What a sh1tty move this was to force this garbage app onto the - paying! - users!

And ANOTHER bug since the latest update.
You can’t use Search on iOS.
Let’s say I’m searching for Daniel Craig, Plex finds him but instead of listing all Movies/Shows with him, it only displays the list of my Movies.
This was working flawlessly and now a core feature has been borked by that reckless update.
Did you guys even test this before it went live?
Are you even aware of Non regression tests?!

Can confirm - I see the same issue. IOS version 2025.12.0

Where is the multi-language support for the interface? Many language options have disappeared. When will the Chinese version be updated?

Luckily found the latest legacy apk file and installed that. No automatic updates for me!

Has plex responded to these issues yet? If so where? Seems like they stole a page out of Sonos’s book. At least Sonos had the decency to email its customers to apologize and list the steps they were doing to fix the issue.

No statement by plex? Do they even give a damn?

One developer has commented on a few posts here. Kudos to that dev. Other than that, Plex released a “we’re sorry, we hear you… we’re still moving forward with all this” message on the forums last week. They learned absolutely NOTHING from Sonos… how’d that turn out for Sonos’s CEO? Short answer, no they don’t care about their founding user base. They want that sweet sweet streaming revenue for “free tv and movies”. It’s time to look elsewhere folks.

I agree with everything you said. They are not hearing us, trust in plex as a company is gone. TBH I don’t see how the project lead for this can keep their job.

LOL they just doubled down on the “meh, we hear you that it sucks, but we’re still charging ahead with it and not even giving you a legacy client to use in the short term” Mobile (phone/tablet) Preview migrating to Beta channel

Actually amazing… so I won’t even be able to keep testing the preview app while keeping the old one installed, since the Beta is not a separate package but actually overwrites the default one.

I’m truly baffled. Every decision keeps getting worse.

Great job Plex team, as usual, keep it up.

After today’s post from Plex I have less and less faith in this team. They have screwed their users and owe everyone an apology for their terrible communication and hamfisted release schedule. Shame on their CEO and upper management.
