Releasing the new app was a crazy decision

But wasn’t that the whole idea for starting from scratch. That code can be used cross platform, so it would be relatively easy to release apps for each, and update them in lock step.

I agree. It feels like a huge mistake for both them and the users and basically it seems like a misunderstanding to the backlash.

I’m concerned that they don’t seem to understand what kind of bad shape the current apps are in. I mean almost nobody would have complained about the music and photos separation if the apps had launched in a better state. And now instead of fixing the apps they choose to revert this instead. I’m honestly baffled at this point. They are dropping the ball big time.

It makes perfect sense to reintegrate the apps, especially for those of us who enjoy playing photo slideshows with music on a tablet or TV. The majority of my family do this and I’ve seen many others who do as well.

It’s pretty common especially if you come from older HTPC days when things like Apples iTV (yes I’m that old) did this native and encouraged it. Long before they (Apple) split all the apps and began the enshitification of everything.

Plex was the savior, until they weren’t…about 4 months ago. It’s also still totally possible for them to keep the individual apps for those that want them.

Excuse me, sir. As long as Plexamp won’t be available to all platforms, dropping music support from the main app was a complete fail.
As Plexamp will not get new platforms very soon, migrating these features back into the main app is the right decision.

Can’t you see that?

Everyone else can use PlexAmp if they wish.

Hmmmm…

How’s separating iTunes into separate media apps going for Apple? Can the Podcast app be found on any other platform? Can you watch your PURCHASED tv shows and films directly from within the AppleTV subscription service on multiple platforms? Please tell me what makes you think Plex Inc. will deliver on their promise to be the best media app or collection of apps when they intend to sunset services and media types whenever they see fit (based on usage metrics). Please name a major company that has this market and done it all correctly where every customer can enjoy their media in one singular app. Is it Apple? No. Is it Google? No. Is it Microsoft? No. Who else is there? I’ll wait.

I’m not saying that my take is the correct one, it’s my opinion

The problem is that it’s going to slow down development of what had effectively become the Videos app, which means that we’re likely going to have to wait even longer for that app to reach video feature parity with the old app for video.

It’s also going to result again in a bloated, more complex app.

I think that Plex have missed a significant silent majority who didn’t complain (but embraced) the separation.

And Apple made the correct decision in separating iTunes into their own apps IMO. It’s allowed them to move things forward more quickly.

I think they should have accelerated bring Plexamp to all platforms. That (for me) would be the best move for Plex as a company.

A separate app allows them to shut it down, but similarly, functionality can be removed from any app any time Plex believes it’s not something they wish to continue pursuing. It makes no difference from that perspective.

You can put analytics anywhere you want in an app to see which features are being used and how.

Lets not forget that plexamp does not play music videos, so releasing plexamp on all platforms does not fully solve the overall music media problem.

For anyone who wants to play all their plex media via a TV device then it all needs to be in one consolidated app. Phones, tables, they can do what they want but TV need to be one app. No switching between apps if you want to consume your media.

We’ll have to agree to disagree on one app versus many apps on TV devices.

But there should be a way to watch music videos.

Uh, Yes? The AppleTV+ app is available on other device platforms, and purchased content from the iCloud account you sign into the app with is available as well (sidebar → “Library”). You can’t buy new content directly in the app, though (unless you’re on an Apple device).

The same is true of the Amazon Prime Video app: You can access your purchased movies and shows on it, and that app is available for Apple TV, Roku, etc.

If you purchased movies or shows on Google’s store you can access them in the YouTube app.

Well, but they said they are not planning to bring Plexamp to more platforms at all.

And I said that I believed that they should have, not that they promised to.

I believe money should grow on trees, thing is beliefs and reality are two different things

Where would one purchase such a tree? Really…

They accomplished this years ago.

Plex.

Do you have Auto update activated? That is normal behaviour.

I have also noticed that, after upgrading to pleaxamp on my iOS, that ramdon MP3 folders no longer stream back.. if I choose an album’s skips though the whole song list… I have to go back to my server and re-encode the files.. yet they played just fine when it was Plex on iOS… why?

I have nothing to contribute other than sharing my complete hatred for whoever thought people would ‘love’ the idea of a completely separate app to download across all my media and the app itself.

Managers and decision makers: Change for the sake of change is not progress.

Users don’t care about major changes or features. We get your software because of what it does. You’ve changed how that works and expect us to like it?

It sounds like you’re justifying hiring and paying developers by creating jobs or work that users don’t want or care about.
