Releasing the new app was a crazy decision

I can’t believe it. They actually updated the new design to the official version just like that. Without getting into other aspects, originally the Plex app supported 30 to 40 languages, but now it only supports 7 languages. And they launched it like this? It’s outrageous. I don’t seem to be able to find the section for contributing translations for the new app on Plex’s Transifex. So, what are they planning to do now? Abandon its users?

Adding my voice to this. This is the worst piece of crap I have ever seen as far as “upgrades” go. The person who decided to release this as a functional app ought to be ashamed of themselves. I don’t even know where to start with what I hate about this new app. It seems as if they removed features, moved stuff around for no reasons, and didn’t check for any bugs. For the first time ever, I’m going to learn how to downgrade an app to a previous version. My money went to this nonsense? What a stupid mistake I made giving this team my money.

Turn off auto updates. Sadly, something you can’t do on Roku devices.

Learn to side load older clients. Sadly, something you can’t do on Roku devices. I know there’s technically a way to do it on iOS devices, it’s easier to do on Android devices. I don’t use built in TV apps for streaming anything, but I imagine its difficult to impossible to side load anything that way.

But, eventually they will flip a switch an not allow older clients to work. Freezing server updates may lengthen the life of older clients… Not sure how much the Plex login process get’s in the the way of handshaking with a personal server. And, of course, not doing server updates comes with its own security risks.

you’re asking us all to buy into plex pass to keep our remote streaming and you make this unwelcome change to the mobile app? you remove functionality and force more ad supported content at us while diminisihing local content, which is the lifeblood of your user base. Please show us you’re willing to listen to your users and reconsider this app redesign.

Full disclosure, I already have a lifetime Plex pass, so the new paywalls don’t effect me or my users… But, to be fair, I wouldn’t really mind paying something if I had to for the extra features. I get that they need to make money.

But… I agree that if forcing more behind a paywall AND raising the price, they should be increasing functionality behind that paywall, not reducing it. At least wait until there is feature parity before switching to the new cost model.

Does anyone have any suggestions on how to downgrade to the previous Plex version on a non-jailbreak iPhone using a Mac? I am so pissed off about this new Plex version, but I can’t seem to find a way to downgrade.

I hope everyone is leaving reviews on the updated version on their respective app stores to make sure Plex knows what people think and also to warn prospective new users that they’re no longer downloading the highly rated previous version of the app.

Absolutely! I think it was the first time ever I have ever left a review on the Apple App Store. We should also leave feedback on social media sites tagging Plex.

I am willing to pay as well, I was about to buy the lifetime license. but then they violate my imminent act of faith with this? I’m worried. I don’t want to doom and gloom, I just want to trust plex will not start butchering the service chasing ad supported content and investment money or an IPO. We deserve better. We are your audience. Please listen to us Plex :frowning:

I just set up jellyfin for the time being, I really hope they would allow us to use the old app until the new one is ready. I am starting to regret about my Plex pass, I did not expect this.

Yep, setting up Jellyfin. Go review bomb them with 1 star reviews. Actually type something though in the review or a lot of the app stores won’t count it against them if there is just a rating with no review attached.

Plex you can’t be serious about this new app nor about your pronounced lack of respect from your loyal customers.

Highly recommend pulling the new app, and allowing downgrade, until you can get the core user experience to a reasonable level.

I have found that if you go to the app switcher, you know on iOS where you swipe up from the bottom and it shows the apps you have open? If you go into that while a video is playing and then switch to another app, the PiP works for me. If I just swipe to go to the Home Screen it doesn’t.

I am most annoyed by the lock to landscape being a video by video adjustment. So basically you have to open a video, pause it, click the three dots, click playback settings, uncheck the box, close that screen, close the previous one too, then resume the video. Wtf???

Surely a global setting can be made?

The latest Plex update on iOS devices has completely ruined the design and user experience of the application. Features have been drastically reduced, and there are so many bugs that in some cases even cause crashes. Honestly, I would have preferred not to update to the new version. I want the old app back!
