I don’t understand what is happening here. If i disable the subtitle for currently playing video, the next video displays the subtitle. Isn’t the most basic thing to remember user choises?
Plex has a “subtitles” preference in your Account Settings.
- Once you click on that box, it expands to a bunch of drop-downs. If you want no subs EVER picked, in the
AUTO-SELECT SUBTITLE MODEdrop-down chooseManually Selected. - If you pick
Shown with foreign audio, Plex will ONLY pick subtitles in two cases: If the video’s audio language is different than your preferred language, it will look for a subtitle in your preferred language and display that. Otherwise, it will pick a matching-language subtitle IF that subtitle is marked asForced.
If you change this behavior for any video (such as turning off a subtitle), Plex will remember this change for this one video only. If you wish to never have subs play, use the subtitle preferences menu.
Thank you for the information. Looks like it is working for my server, but on my friend server, it still shows the subtitle. Any ideea why? Also, is this setting applied to other family members that use my server? Not all of them can live without subtitles. The best experience would be client app preference, not account preferences. I don’t know how this was omitted for plex team.
I would think that subtitle/audio language preference is based per account, so anyone who uses your server with their own account ought to be able to have their own preferences. I use managed users, but all my managed users prefer the same subtitle settings, so I haven’t had to change it to see if it is different with different managed users.
I’ve been considering migrating my “managed users” into separate accounts with their own emails, that I then invite into my server account’s “home”. This should give each user their own account settings, and the ability to use full regular account features (discovery is disabled for managed users), while still giving everyone the ability to quick-switch users without entering new logins. Perhaps doing this will allow each user their own subtitle preference.
This also requires accurately labeled subtitle and audio tracks in your files.
