Remote Access denied: home server is on Spectrum Community Wifi

First time posting.

I recently bought the lifetime Plex Pass. Works great around the house, but when I try to access via my phone or share my content with fellow Plexers, remote access is unable to connect. The public port has a red “x” next to it, so presumably that is the issue.

I believe the source of the problem is that our building has Spectrum Community wifi. You have to register devices to connect, but once you do you have static connectivity throughout the building. You do NOT have your own router though. Individual cable accounts, wifi, etc. is prohibited.

I’ve called Spectrum but they were, predictably, useless. I’ve tried randomly plugging in different public port #s (it sometime connects for 5 seconds, then disconnects again). Nothing seems to let me access my content outside of the house.

Does anyone know how to address this given my limited access to the wifi hardware?

Thank you in advance!

Paul

Hi there, I was in the same exact situation as you are when I moved into a newer community who had Charter community wifi. I tried a lot, ask my community people, called charter(got lucky with level 2 person once who tried everything he could), bought wrt router to try flashing and getting openvpn and eventually gave up. But after all of this one day I decided to try again and guess what a particular VPN setup just right worked. Is AIRVPN. you have to buy that and they are one of the best ones who are out there who will give you port forwarding. You need that and then manually use port foward in PLEX and you will get the amazing green check you are looking for. Since then everything is butter for me. Never I ever worry about not having remote access and with automation of Sonarr/Radarr/Docker everything just works inside and outside the apartment community. Let me know if you want me to walk you through the entire process. I can help you as I know exactly where you are today.
