I’ve been working for a couple of weeks but I cannot get remote access to work. The issue started after Plex and Windows updates took place otherwise this has been working for over a year without any problems. Any assistance would be great.
My setup is:
ISP Spectrum modem Arris TM1602A
VPN: PIA (still not able to get Remote Access to work with VPN off)
Orbi RBR50 set up in Router mode with port forward set for 32401 (tried 32400 as well)
Windows 10 computer
TCP Inbound rule set for Port 32401
UPnP disabled
Plex Version 1.13.8.5395
Plex manual public port 32401
NOTE: I have hooked my ISP modem directly up to the computer bypassing Orbi router and still am not able to get remote access to work. I turned off the manual port as well…no go. Thanks.
I have same issues where before a few months ago, Plex worked for two years without any problems. Not Remote Access is never available. When I disable and enable, it flashes to Green “Server Available” to Red “Not accessible” in a few seconds.
I never had to do port forwarding, but even @redcabo7 has port forward enabled and it doesn’t work for him. It’s been really frustrating that I haven’t been able to hear from plex devs or anyone on the forum with a solution or even diagnosis as to why this happened
I have found that after using VPN client from PIA you will need to restart PMS and then it will work. I have also tried PIA new Client version 82 with the same results. This is a real pain and has only occurred recently after a server update.

I appreciate your feedback @se56 however even without PIA it still won’t connect. I tried to rule out everything before I threw out the white flag for help. I have honestly spent 20+ hours trying to figure this out. Quite frustrating but I know there is a solution, just need to find it.
@SE56, it appears your screenshot guided me to fixing my issue. The following is what I did and I have confirmed Plex remote is working from 2 separate sources:
Unchecked "Manually specify public port
Enable UPnP on router
Reboot computer
Plex obtained an external IP pre-VPN
Started VPN (PIA)
This is very odd but it seems my issue has been resolved.
Unfortunately it’s not working again. Plex refreshed and updated the Public IP to the VPN IP. My daughter can access via computer but Apple TV and smart tv cannot access. This is really strange.
I have found since earlier PIA VPN has a helper called “nwjs” I changed to “allow connections” in Firewall settings and now I do not need to quit the application PMS after VPN to have remote access.
I still can not Remote access with a VPN active unless I allow port forwarding on my VPN client.
