I’ve generally had no problems with Remote Access until the past month or so, and have used it for years. None of my equipment has changed recently.
The issue is that the server status page now almost always has the red exclamation mark next to Remote Access. Clicking “Retry” changes that to green, with the whole “Fully Accessible…” message, for about two seconds, then it all goes red exclamation mark again.
I am NOT behind a double NAT, based on the guidelines on the Plex troubleshooting page:
That said, I can reliably fix this issue-temporarily-by powering my cable provider’s modem, and powering it back on. Doing so resolves this two second duration of Remote Access being enabled before switching to unavailable (ie: it’s solidly green and available), but at some point in the following 24 hours, the problem comes back up again. Powering my router has no effect.
Ideas?
Currently running Plex Media Server 1.11.1.4753 on Windows 10.
I have recently the same issue. No changes at all. Last plex version (updated 1/2/2018). At totally random (I haven’t noticed any event that may be th cause) it switches from green (remote access working) to red (not working) and than back again after a colle of hours. This happened sometimes (3-5?) in the last months but never laster longer than 1-2 day so never truly a issue. But i wonder What is going on.
Had done some basic troubleshooting (restarted router, restarted plex, checked portforwarding, firewall) but none of them truly worked. I accept it
I’ve finally fixed this issue. Apparently, port forwarding with my UPnP enabled router (Netgear R6700) is what was causing it to stay accessible just for a few seconds. Turning off port forwarding, and allowing UPnP to handle things by itself, has resolved this issue and I’m back to being fully accessible 24/7 outside of my network.
I should note I’ve had port forwarding manually enabled for years without an issue. Not sure if something changed on the Plex server side or the router firmware (Netgear seems to push out firmware updates quite often).
Yesterday I removed port forwarding for Plex on my Netgear R7000 and like SmilingMaybe, Plex Remote access started working again (went green and stayed green). However, today the problem is back and it goes red after 1 second every time I attempt. I also never (over 3 years) had a problem until recently on this. But the weird thing is I can still reach the server from outside my home network (via the Internet that is) even though it is red!
I’ve been also running into the same issues noted here. The issues started last Friday after the 2 hour down for maintenance, plex had. I’ve checked my router and firewall and even updated my router firmware. I’ve done port forwarding and my UPnP is enabled as well. I’ve had Plex for about 3 years and never had this issue before on the same computer with the same router and ISP.
Also to note on the accepted answer in this thread, I never had any port forwarded on my router previously. I forwarded 32400 this time but that did not help. I’ve also notice the private and public ip addresses, and someone here said that making your network private would help. How can I make it all private in windows 10? and how will this help with the remote access not being accessible?
Thank you for the accepted answer. I was having that exact issue this morning (as described by OP) and pulling what’s left of my hair out. I had tried router reboot, port forwarding, temp disabling little snitch, etc - all w/o success. Putting things back to just uPnP straightened it out… confused as to what happened. BTW, I’m on a Mac (seeing forum is Windows)…

Ok, well it seems Plex disables remote access if you have VPN running or another NIC card. This is as of recent though. I had this setup for a while, and I guess one of the recent updates no longer likes it. So if you want remote access then you’ll have to disable your 2nd NIC card and\or VPN as well.

I am also having this issue.
I have two NICs and a VPN. In hindsight, my issue started happening after connecting to my VPN on Tuesday,

I have tried disabling manual port fwd, rebooting all devices, toggling UPNP on and off, changing network type to private and nothing seems to correct this. My remote accessibility goes green for a minute and back to red. I am able to access server from mobile device on mobile network but it says indirect connection unavailable. I created another server on the same LAN and same situation. I think it has something to do with the router but cannot pin point what it is. This all started yesterday when i woke up and found out my router had rebooted overnight. I really do not want to factory reset router but will try if this continues. Suggestions or thoughts are appreciated.
I have tried restarting my modem and computer, and been on the phone for hours with AT&T. They are telling me the port is open, and modem is fine. I continue to have the brief available flash, then back to not available. Nothing on my network has changed. I believe it was a Plex change, and I can’t resolve it. I don’t believe AT&T has UPnP. If it does, can anyone tell me how to toggle it on an At&T 5268AC modem?
