Remote access from behind vpn

Hi im running plex on a open media vault server (linux) on my server is a vpn to hide my ip address i would like to gain remote access to plex. ive forwarded a port that works when my vpn is turned off but when its enabled it cant connect to outside… all sugestions welcome thanks.

PMS cannot control the outbound adapter (a requirement) to live within the VPN nor does it operate in a split-VPN environment (which you are experiencing).

You must write your own script and adjust all routes to be fully captive when the VPN is active.

So I am struggling with the same issue… I found XFlak’s scrips, and those seem to almost work. I can connect remotely, but PMS only detects my VPN’s IP address (Not the actual one from ISP).

So while I can remote access through a browser (if I know my current IP), I cant use the Plex app remotely.

My ISP-give IP is dynamic, so I cant just feed the client a manual IP.

Thoughts?

I am currently using Plex remote access with ExpressVPN and xFlak’s scripts on a scheduled task with no port forwarding on the router or modem.

It works for remote access on the mobile apps, roku, and 3 different smart tv apps that myself and friends use.

If the script doesn’t run often enough, the connection drops out and cannot be accessed until it runs again.

Local apps such as Kodi plugin, home theatre and web browser streaming also work.

I am unable to use PMS with split tunneling on ExpressVPN, but was able to use it on PureVPN. (but that vpn is not recommended)

Are you using the ExpressVPN router software or are using the individual apps? I am using the router app and I cannot get xFlak’s script to work on my setup. How often do you have it running?

SORRY! i am using the individual apps, i have it run the script every 30min, 45min seemed to be too long. I kept the defaults for remote access on the plex server.
