Everything works as it should when VPN not running. I’d like to get remote access with VPN on. Port forwarding seems to be set up properly but I’m not sure. Can someone walk me thru this?

If someone has a good answer to this I would have loved it a few years ago. I ended up puting PLEX on its own PC without a VPN so I could keep my main PC on the VPN. I tried several times to get PLEX to work with a VPN and just gave up. I had an unused PC so I just put PLEX there. Solved my problem but I understand it isn’t techincally a solution to THE problem. Hopefully someone will chime in.

Configuring Plex to work with IP Vanish VPN

Hi, I have a Plex Media Server running on a Synology DiskStation (218+) I use IP Vanish as a VPN Within the Network Interfaces section on the Synology, I have created a VPN connection with my IP Vanish credentials and certificate. Trouble with Plex media server and Express VPN

Update 1: Set all firewall rules to block Plex from public network, set adapter priority to 1 on local and 20 on VPN adapter, still same issue, cant even go into settings in Plex on the server until I disconnect VPN, external users report the same issues, most videos start playing, but only for a few minutes before it crashes with a transcode error.

PIA VPN and Plex - Not able to get Plex remote control to work when PIA is activated

Has anyone got PIA and plex to work? i have added all kind of plex.exe apps via PIA settings (to not use plex via VPN) and ive added the port to be open on my router, but im still not able to get PIA to work with plex remote control. Im connected to the Swedish server, and i have tried a couple other servers without any result. Im using the openVPN settings. Anyone know how to make this to work?

should Plex ultimately see my modems public IP address or my VPNs IP address?

Honestly I don’t know. As I said, I could never get it to work. That’s why I just moved PLEX to a stand alone PC that does nothing but PLEX. Give this thread some time and see who responds.

I use PIA without issue, IPVanish only supports split tunneling with android I believe.

Just ended my sub with ipvanish and started a year with PIA. I think this is resolved. When checking 32400, it shows on the home IP, not the VPN correct? (Question for SE56).

If using split tunneling correct, I found it best to use a non default browser for Plex admin and add the Browser to exclusions. Add all things Plex to Exclusions
