Remote Access Gets disabled after a minute or so? (Using Google Nest)

I am having trouble enabling remote access. Its goes green and is accessible for a minute or so and then goes back to red ( Not available outside your network)

Directly underneath a message comes up

“Tip: It looks like your server may be connected to the internet through multiple routers or other network devices. Try connecting it directly to your primary device, or visit our support site for more information about troubleshooting this “Double-NAT” scenario.”

I am presuming this is because I am using google nest mesh system as my router, but I am unsure of what I can do to fix it?

Do you have a public IPv4 from your ISP?

Hi guys, I am struggling to get this up and running.

The networks has the following setup

phone line > ISP modem/router>Google Nest router<switch<NAS (plex content & shieldTV (plex server)

I get a brief green signal for remote access and then it comes back to no acess (double NAT)

I spent the last coupe of days speaking tol google and ISP and came up without any solution…

Google advised that I should put my ISP modem into bridge mode > ISP advised this is not possible from their end (not allowed)

I set the shield plex server to static IP
I forwarded the port on google nest

Still getting double nat…

Not sure what I can do next?

In such a setup you’ll need to be able to forward requests from the internet through each active network component to the NAS hosting your Plex Media Server.

As for the Nest router:

As for your ISP modem/router you might find similar instructions for their device on https://portforward.com

So I need to port forward on the Nest router and also port forward on my ISP router?

Should the same server address be used on the isp router as well? (the nest and the ISP seem to have different type of adresses … eg nest is 192.168.86.X and ISP is 192.168.1.X

the Plex server is on the nest router so it looks like 192.168.86.1000 (example)… so should this same address (ie 192.168.86.1000) be used for port forward on ISP router?

Modem:

<WAN IP>:<Public Port><Nest Public IP>:<Nest Public Port>
Make sure to use the Nest’s public IP as that’s the IP known to your modem (192.168.1.XXX).

Nest:

<Nest Public IP>:<Nest Public Port><PMS local IP>:32400

You can theoretically use different public ports for the modem and Nest; just make sure to include the modem’s public IP in the Plex remote access configuration!

Basically you’re telling Plex the “most public” port to look for based on your home’s “most public” address. Then you have an end-to-end forwarding chain from that “most public” address/port down to your Plex Media Server.

Hi tom80H

I am sorry for my lack of knowledge here. The more I re-read your post the more I am getting confused on what needs to happen (?? =)

I gather that the plex media server IP and port needs to be set up on the nest?

And the modem needs to have the public IP of the nest?

ie Plex > nest > modem “tunnel” ? Is that right?

So how do I practical do this step by step…? (Once again, please excuse my lack of knowledge here)

Google nest says to disconnect the router (I cant > I have a modem router) or to place the router in bridge mode (I can’t do this either > ISP says cannot be done > it will stop my internet)

I even considered swapping ISP and trying to find just a modem (no router) to try and work this. – > but surely my lack of knowledge of setting up the right settings is the bottleneck here, and my preference would be to not change isp or purchase new equipment to resolve this…

I would really appreciate it if someone could chime in with a worked example… ? (Happy to also connect via messenger)

Doing a bit of research on the net I dug up some info on double port forwarding (below link) from the net as well… but it talks about a need for static addresses???
