I have the following:
PLEX on Win 8 64bit - wired ethernet
Motorola SBG6580 cable modem

One would think it’d be pretty straight forward:

  1. Set the static IP on the PC
  2. Turn on Remote access in plex
  3. Forward the Port

Am I missing something? The only thing that is unusual is the router port external needs to be 0.0.0.0 from what I’ve researched but I have that here.

Plex is always running on port 32400 (as you can see on picture 2, private labeled adress).

You need to set port 32400 as local end port in your forwarding.

Also try not to use 32401 as Plex is listening on that port as well. May be used for something else in the future.

Local Start Port 32400
Local End Port 32400
External Start Port (try something more random/obscure) 13579
External End Port 13579

Set this in Plex Media Server as well.

This worked! Setting to a more obscure external port (and correcting the internal ports) solved the issue. Thanks! In my frustration I though I was changing the internal port IN Plex but that is not what that setting does… it set’s the external port. Somewhere along the line I forgot this!
