Remote Access Issue

Server Version#: 1.40.0.7998

I have recently changed my internet connection; and have my Plex Media Server running on Windows PC but since I have changed the internet and router I am unable to keep remote access active on my server.

I have enabled UPnP in the router; and have tried manually opening port 32400. Remote Access will show as available for short time; but then falls back to not available outside of home network. With my previous router with the same supplier I just had to enable UPnP, no manual port forward was necessary.

I am afraid my knowledge of networking is rather basic; and outside of these steps I am at a loss as to what to do to resolve this.

Thanks for the reply. I have followed steps in the article, checking Plex is allowed through the firewall and also disabling UPnP and re-enabling it. I can see 2 rules created by UPnP in the router with my Plex server IP adress, internal port 32400 and external ports 29340 and 14357.

I have also disabled remote access in Plex; and tried re-enabling it. This hangs saying connecting server. Closing and reopening Plex show remote acess is available, but shows both the Private and Public IP address and ports as unknown.

I am able to acess the server from an IOS client now; but media is showing as indirect play on the server dashboard when I have direct play enabled; do you have any idea why this might be?

I’m having the symptoms described by Special K78. I’ve had robust connections for the past two months using public port 32400, then two days ago the remote server connection failed. When I try to reestablish it, it connects for 2-3 seconds and then drops. I’m unaware of any changes to my modem settings/software. I’m also running McAfee security software.

Im experiencing the same exact problem recently upgraded to from 1G to 2.5G and i have since lost remote access direct connection.

So mine was fixed after i completed the task stated by @OttoKerner

@SpecialK78 We had exact same problem but I called my ISP last night after review @OttoKerner response and explained to them I did not want carrier grade nat. They asked why so I just said I was unable to reach my work computer remotely and needed it removed. They explained that it was an extra layer of protection and that they strongly recommend against it but that i could remove it if it was impacting my job. It took about 20 minutes on their end but they stated it was removed from my IP. I then hung up and checked my remote status and it started working immediately. I confirmed by leaving my property and was able to directly access the server remotely with full full-quality options (1080p/4K). My connection to remote access also has not dropped since this change was done last night. Thanks again for posting this question and answering @OttoKerner
