Remote Access is driving me insane!

I’m not sure, if this is due to an update or me moving.

Yet, I no longer have remote access to Plex Sever.

Nothing has changed and I can’t figure it out.

I even upgraded my router from Netgear WNDR3400 to a Netgear R6700.

I disable and enable UPNP. (Neither one had NAT-PMP)

Completed disabled windows firewall, rebooted.

Even followed the directions, and forwarded my ports.

It can’t be this complicated, let me know what I am missing!

in the plex dialog you put the port number 16433
while in the router you have set 16432

These must be identical.

My fault…I knew that :pensive:

Had my screenshots messed up, been messing with it all morning…

Surf to this website http://canyouseeme.org/ with a web browser on your plex server.
Compare the IP address this website shows you with the “public” IP shown in Plex.

If these are different, you are in a double-NAT situation or you have some kind of VPN active.

It’s the same…

Are you using some kind of VPN or ‘hidemyass’ or similar software?

Have you activated ‘jumbo’ frames or did you run some software which manipulates the parameters of the TCP/IP stack in Windows (“tcpoptimize” etc) ?

  1. [activate debug](https: //support.plex.tv/hc/en-us/articles/201643703 “activate debug”) logging (not ‘verbose’!)
  2. quit Plex Server
  3. wait 1 minute
  4. start Plex Server
  5. wait 5 minutes
  6. fetch log files and attach them here

Here it is

And no I don’t use any VPN/proxy of any kind…honestly use a seedbox for anything extracurricular

Your ISP is employing Carrier Grade NAT to circumvent the shortage of public IPv4 adresses.

May 20, 2017 12:03:42.211 [0736] DEBUG - PublicAddressManager: got WAN IP 100.108.23.54 from router
May 20, 2017 12:03:42.211 [0736] WARN - PublicAddressManager: WAN IP on router does not match public IP from plex.tv

All you can do is contact them and ask for a real IPv4 address for you. Some ISPs are handing those out on request. (although usually for an additional fee)

Apart from that, all you can do is use Plex Relay. But this is bandwidth-capped at 2 mbps for you and to 1mbps for users without Plex Pass.
(Use of Plex Relay requires ‘Secure Connections’ to be set at either ‘Preferred’ or ‘Forced’. So you must make some settings in your router to make sure Secure Connections work in your local network as well.)

Thanks so much! Been dealing with this for the past few hours. Even bought a new router. (Actually a week or so)

I’m honestly studying for my Comptia Network+ and this information was more than insightful, to where I got on their online chat(local electric company who provides fiber optic) and they resolved it!

Wow!
Did they provide you with a real IPv4 address now? Will they charge extra for it?

My Public IP is completely different now. How can I verify that it is a real IPv4? No, I wasn’t charged anything.

They just said they changed the ‘provisioning’

I assume they did have some real IPv4 adresses left for customers like you, so they assigned you one. That’s great of them!
Enjoy your remote access. It appears to be working now (from what I can see).

Was working for a week, and then my internet provider changed something, and the Tech Rep I had wasn’t knowledgeable.
She said change the Ethernet cord…anyways. Can anyone look at my logs and see what’s different? I’ve even completely bypassed the router, to try to eliminate issues. Around 10:10 log times

Nothing in your logs gives a hint about the issue.

shut down Plex Server and all clients
shut down your modem and your router(s)
wait 10 minutes
power up your modem
wait 2 minutes
power up your router(s)
wait 2 minutes
power up your plex server
wait another 10 minutes

try again

30 minutes later…Updated logs

Someone from your ISP put you back into the Carrier Grade NAT address pool.

May 27, 2017 11:29:46.606 [7028] DEBUG - PublicAddressManager: got WAN IP 100.108.23.54 from router
May 27, 2017 11:29:46.607 [7028] WARN - PublicAddressManager: WAN IP on router does not match public IP from plex.tv

Call them and tell them the same you did last time.
This time ask them what you need to do to prevent this from happening again.

I swear I tried to look for that wording in the text before I posted…Guess I was looking in the wrong spot.

Well, I’ve learned that not all techs are of the same competency. Got someone last night who simply stated he would take me off the ‘GNAT Connection’ and after that it was a matter of forwarding the port.

Thanks

Jesus…I reinstalled Windows and I’m back to having issues opening my ports.
I doubt my ISP did something the exact same time I reinstalled it over the weekend.

The closest thing I got to it being resolved was that Remote Access was available - and then an hour later it wasn’t…Anything in the logs?

So checking the logs myself

Feb 17, 2019 17:41:44.183 [8660] DEBUG - PublicAddressManager: got WAN IP from router
Feb 17, 2019 17:41:44.184 [8660] WARN - PublicAddressManager: WAN IP on router does not match public IP from plex.tv

This means I am back in the CGNAT?
