Remote access issue

Server Version#: 1.43.5.11079
Player Version#: 2026.20.0

Hello, I have a Plex Pass.

My issue is with accessing the library on my Plex server—which is installed on a QNAP NAS—using the Plex Android app on my smartphone.

This problem only occurs when I’m away from home.

Remote access works fine; for example, I can access it from my smartphone using Firefox (https://app.plex.tv/desktop). But I can’t access it using the Android app.

I’ve disabled strict SSL validation.

I’ve been looking for a solution but can’t find one.

It seems like it hasn’t been working for several months now.

I paid for a Plex Pass, but I can’t take full advantage of its features. That’s a bit of a rip-off, isn’t it?

COME ON PLEX AND FIX THIS PLEASE!!

Not sure if you’ve tried it already….

Go to the cache directory in the plex media server folder, is there a certificate.p12 file? If so, stop plex, rename it certificate.p12.old and start plex back up. It should download cert-v2.p12. Test access from your Android device.

Thanks, but the certificate.p12 file doesn’t exist.

The cert-v2.p12 file does exist, though. I renamed it to test, and it regenerates just fine.

/share/CACHEDEV1_DATA/.qpkg/PlexMediaServer/Library/Plex Media Server/Cache/cert-v2.p12

What’s strange is that if I open app.plex.tv/desktop from my smartphone, I can see entries in Plex Media Server.log.

But from the Android app, I can access my profile and my account…
When I try to refresh the connection to the server, there are no entries in the logs.

If you already had cert-v2.p12 no issue there.

Not a lot of details in your original post, so some basic questions…

  • Does the remote access page stay green or is it flipping back and forth?
  • Is your port open? https://canyouseeme.org/
  • Can you screenshot and share the network settings page in plex?
  • Is relay disabled in the network settings? If not, suggest disabling it.

Suggest downloading and sharing your logs so folks that are good at interpreting them can take a look.

To add to @veeejay’s info…

It is OK to have Strict TLS Certification enabled when using the Plex Android mobile app.

If you do not need IPv6 connectivity:

  1. Plex Media Server Settings → Network → Client Network = IPv4 Only, then restart Plex Media Server.
  2. Plex Android mobile settings → Advanced. Disable “Include IPv6 Connections.”

Also: Plex Android client settings -> Advanced -> Reset Cache. Then force stop & re-launch the app.

Hi,

In response to @fordguy61, IPv6 is already disabled on both ends (server and client).

@veeejay,

The remote access page doesn’t change; I’ve never seen it any color other than green.

Hopefully someone can take a look at the logs, may want to disable verbose and grab them again.

So on your local network, the android app connects fine?

Assume you’ve already signed out of the app, deauthed it in your account settings under authorized devices, and uninstalled/reinstalled just to give it a full reset?

The app logs may be helpful as well since it seems to be specific to the Android app.

Yes, the Android app works on the local network (Wi-Fi).

I’ve already removed the app from “Authorized Devices,” cleared the cache, and/or uninstalled the Android app…

And I can confirm that the problem stems exclusively from the Android app.

As for logs, I’d like to remind you that the logs I found are from browsing via a web browser. I haven’t found anything when using the app.

Thanks for the help.

For now, I’ll just stick to viewing it through a web browser (Firefox).

In the app, go to settings > about and select download logs.
