yes in my case remote access was working thur relay due to CGN issues and double nat due to apartment what i have control over was open for plex and worked fine since i signed up for my pass but as of this week it will not work properly i can only think it is due to recent updates and something is turning off remote access automatically. i came home from work these past two days and found remote was turned off despite me enabling it and not disabling myself.
Do you have a Port forwarding setup?
in my case all forwards did not change in the last week from when it was working with relay to now.
I was and is behind a double NAT with a working relay.
Public IP >CGN router>to my router with forwarded ports>Plex server PC
let me be clear i am talking about relay which stopped working even thou it worked for weeks without issue save a media deletion disappear reappear that was going on…
These are the only changes noticed.
PMS is on Beta release channel which may get rolled back and turned off. will test next week
this week only so far remote access has been turning itself off. despite me turning it on. it would give me the expect error about double NAT then at some point it was switched to off not by me.
when it started as a test i de-authorized most if not all devices and when i re-logged before the last update it would work briefly the disappear despite no changes on my part see above.
Which router is the server connected to and what’s the IP address start with? I have a Netgear router where I have a MyCloud NAS device hooked up and a laptop that runs the PLEX Server. I also have a Google Mesh that has another IP address in the house different than the main network in the house. I have to ensure my whole PLEX (NAS & Server) are on the main network using 192.168.1.XX vs google mesh 192.168.86.XX. Now I can have any client connected to the google mesh network and play fine.
in my case the router is a netgear 192.168.20.xx the main router is a 192.168.1.1 but cant be in bridge mode since it is not in my control.
i have tried using my router in bridge mode but other devices wont work (my smart TV, phones and the like) my guess is some sort of mac filtering in the main router.
my plex server is on my PC and has been my NAS dont support the trans-code needed for all devices. i have about 2 to 3 tb currently wish i could afford an off site VPS or a simple SSH tunnel but with my Carrier grade Nat i dont think a tunnel would work may test something this week if i have time
Edit:
just now i retested while at work and away from my server so not changes where made by me and relay is back…
the interesting thing is earlier it simply told me my server name was not online when i know it was.
i used my PIA tablet app to login to my vpn then loaded app.plex.tv was given an expire auth error just like all the other times despite not doing it so i killed most of the auth sessions like all other test then loaded https://app.plex.tv/desktop?secure=1#!/settings/devices/all
on my work desktop and it worked.
im guessing in this test case tonight my vpn ip did not connect to my plex account until just now maybe i need to setup a ddns service to help plex find my server.
it should be noted the thur all the relay issues i never had my VPN running until tonight which i forgot in each case when i came up i was given the credital expire notice and was made to re-log in then i would kill all session besides my roku’s and server name and the current sessions over the last 7 days give or take. now i bet if i went home to the server and loaded plex i would have to relog in and not changing anything else at some point relay would break. at the moment my public ip is my VPN i will run test next week without the VPN first. to confirm if this time is a fluke or that i have to use my vpn to get it to work
well as an update it seems the only way for me to keep relay working is to set a manual port despite it not being able to work. every time i tried to use relay with out a manual port set it would turn itself off some times with in minutes other times randomly… i also find my plex credentials expire fast even if i dont death them. i have set an admin password and a new password in the even someone hacked it
