I’m glad I’m not the only one with this issue. I haven’t port forwarded yet but I did make sure my router enabled uPNP. I have reinstalled Plex on my server numerous times and changing the public port. I still can’t get anything to play but it recognizes my information. It keeps telling me the file format is wrong yet it wasn’t changed. This occurred after I updated Plex. Now I can’t get anything to play or for the remote access to stay connected. I’ve been trying since yesterday to get this to work again.
Correction Tom, I’m having the same issue but have not been able to find a solution nor have you been able to offer one either. I would be nice if Plex associates were available to trouble shoot with instead of using a forum.
I’m not sure if other are using Synology Server DS220j. But Synology just updated their packages with a Beta Package for Plex Media Server. When I updated Plex its showing as a Beta Package. I haven’t been able to get it working as before since. I’ve recently tried Port Forwarding, enabling uPNP, and reinstalling Plex.
Same symptoms don’t make the same issue… therefore I’ve moved this in it’s own thread.
Please start by giving some context about your setup, e.g. what version of DSM and PMS do you have on that Synology NAS?
Have you already looked at the at the remote access troubleshooting?

Yes I have looked at that support page along with many others and can’t get it working. As the other person stated, It connects for a minute then disconnects. If I try to play any video files it tells me the file is not located.
DSM 7.0-41882
I have tried changing my public port, I have done port forwarding and enabling UPNP on my router. I have checked firewalls and permission tabs but can’t find anything that is blocking access.
I started to look into Static IP but I don’t understand the process and how it works for my router to try that.
What version of Plex Media Server is installed on your DS220j?
DSM 7.0-41882 broke Plex.
You should use the current Plex Pass version available from plex.tv.
The DS220j has a Realtek RTD1296 CPU, so choose the ARM v8 download.
Can you play files locally, or is it just remote access that is not working correctly?
If you cannot play locally, then that needs to be fixed first, before addressing remote access.
I have followed all of the troubleshooting, uninstalled, reinstalled, logged out logged in again but cannot access my server remotely from any devices it shows that my server is Offline, but if I am connected to the same network it works fine. The reason I pay for Plex pass is so that I can watch while not at home this has now been completely broken
Is this also about PMS on a Synology with DSM 7?
Mind sharing what exactly you checked and to what result?
You don’t need a Plex Pass membership to use remote access.
When I get back home I will uninstall Plex Media Server and try to manually install ARMv8 download again. I was having issues trying to manually install previously. I tried different options and it kept telling me that the format was invalid or was for a different version of DSM. It wasn’t accepting them nor would it allow me to add in the recent update posted by Plex. I will reply back after trying it and seeing which version I have. I’m currently not home to give that answer.
As for the Video files, I was able to fix that last night before I went to bed. I had to move my Movie and TV files in my server to a different location then update Plex on the new file location. Once Plex updated the videos they were able to be played while logged on. However the Remote Access was still an issue. Last night Private IP Server address and my Public IP Server address were showing different on Plex and it wasn’t allowing remote access but for a minute. That some how changed after the Private and Public IP’s were similar before. Not sure how it changed so I didn’t have the option to do it myself except for the Port.
I just logged into Plex via web browser and was able to play a movie and tv show. It advises that I am not connected directly to the server therefore the quality could be compromised but it does play. I opened my Kindle and was able to play a TV show with the same message.
I will check the Apps on my Tv’s when I get home to see if they are now able to stream. I’ll update again once I have.
The DSM 7 Plex Pass versions of Plex Media Server at plex.tv/download are built to work with DSM 7.0-41882. Prior versions may or may not work correctly.
Note that DSM 7 releases are not stable. Synology, without prior notification, changed several things when they released -41882, some of which broke Plex.
Do not install any future DSM 7 updates/betas/etc from Synology without checking the Plex Forums first.
There is no guarantee Plex Media Server will work with future DSM 7 beta releases or that Plex will release an update if things break again.
See DSM 7.0-41882 “Release Candidate” breaks Plex - Do Not Upgrade . Plex has since posted -41882 compatible versions at plex.tv/download, but the note shows some of the issues they are facing with DSM 7.
I read the forum you recommended. Once I got home I was able to Stop the Plex Beta package and manually install the ARM v8. Luckily it worked and was able to update to version 1.23.4.4712.-7000. I was then able to access Plex via my TV and play video’s without an issue. It is now showing that I have Full Remote Access and it’s been continuing for over a minute. I hope a mixture of what was done has fixed the problem for the time being. I will remember to not do any updates until this issue between Plex and Synology is settled.
Thanks for the Info.
