I have been using Plex for nearly a year and haven’t had a problem. I’ve been sharing my media with friends and family during this time. But something has happened since the last update. I am using version 1.15.3.876. I can’t access remotely. I’ve tried everything I can find online concerning this including…
Restarting PMS
Setup Port Forwarding
Checked for Double Nat.
Disabled my firewall protection software.
After each changes it says I have remote access for approximately 5 seconds then changes to no access.
I’m running a Windows 10 machine with a Linksys E1000 router from Cisco directed connected with Ethernet cable.
I’ve setup a static ip and forwarded to 32400. I’ve used various other ports for the external port. i.e. 36000. I am using UPnp before and after. I’ve even tested it without UPnp. Same result. I’ve made no changes to my router settings prior to the plex upgrade which, I think, is probably the problem.
It will use either UPnP or port forwarding not both. if you enable and enter a port in the “manually specified port field” in server remote access settings then it is expecting port forwarding to be set up. If that is disabled then it uses UPnP and it could be using any port the router assigns.
does it say the external port you used for port forwarding is open when you go to canyouseeme.org ?
To figure out what is wrong I and anyone else trying to help need to ask question and we hope you will answer them. If you have no interest in answering them then no one can help you. I understand the the questions may seem obvious or stupid but need to go through the basic troubleshooting.
I used UPnP before. 32400 is not open on canyousemee.
It stopped working on my QNAP server and both my shields…
If it was working before and now it’s not, after restarting everything, what could it be?
I had a similar situation recently. I can try to help. I noticed you said that you had a linksys router. Is your modem a modem/router combo? If so, is it set to bridge mode?
In my scenario, it turned out that I had port forwarding and static ip addresses setup in both the modem and the router separately. Even though my modem was set to bridge mode, having those set in both places was causing the problem (it was in both places because my ISP came out and installed a new mesh network with the same modem I already had and none of us thought about all the settings I had in my modem before they got started). To give myself a clean start, I factory reset both my modem and router. Set the modem to bridge mode. Set the Static IP in my router, and left uPnP enabled and it worked. I tested it both ways - I also turned off uPnP and setup port forwarding and that worked as well.
Finally, I did find that I also had to set a firewall exception in my router for my plex server.
There is definitely an issue it seems connecting via UPnP. PMS seems to be having trouble getting your external IP for some reason.
It seems you have Vuze running on that computer. I’m not sure if that is cause of issue but it seems like PMS is conflicting with it for some reason. (does Vuze have DLNA? i have not used it in forever. If you don’t want to try with Vuze off can you try with just turning it’s DLNA off.
