Just completed update Version 1.14.0.5470 on my Mac Pro 3,1, running OS X 10.10.5 (14F2511).
Did the Plex Remote Access Server dance just last week after upgrading to AT&T Fiber Optics internet service with Arris BGW210 Modem/Wifi Router. Apparently this modem does not support TCP or UDP, so I had to create a port forward and wormhole using 50000 manual setting. To my final surprise, it finally worked!
BUT WAIT!! After updating to latest server version 1.14.0.5470, ALL REMOTE ACCESS is no longer working. AAAAGGGG!!! Sorry to be so emotional, but I am sick to death of having to be a network administrator on the Plex media system on a bi-weekly basis!
Can anyone shed light on WTF is going on with the latest update and when my family and friends can expect access, AGAIN? (Does anyone else ever sicken with the text message, “Is the Plex server off line?”???
I noticed in the update notes to 1.14.0.5470, that there was a provision for older modems for better Automatic login to server; so, I tried turning off the port forwarding and using the “Automatic” setting for server access and it doesn’t work either.
I love Plex, WHEN IT WORKS. But that is becoming less and less. All I want to do is stop this from hurting so much, so very often! Any suggestions? (Other than just taking the server down altogether?)
I feel your pain, and that is why I have not updated sense Version 1.13.5.5291, (Mac OS version.)
Because of all the issues lately, with remote access dropping off line, I have not upgraded, but rather downgraded to Version 1.13.5.5291 when I first encountered this problem.
My server has been rock solid sense.
I have been reading the posts here and hoping that this problem will be solved, but so far not so.
I realize that this is not a fix, but rather a bandaid for now, but that is what I’m doing till this problem is resolved.
I’ve been using v1.13.8.5395 for a while now and I have two people that are all of a sudden having non-stop problems with the server disappearing and they can’t stream from me. I think there’s something going on with Plex’s .direct domain service. They are using Roku’s and FireTV sticks but both have the same issue. Was working perfectly for months and months but over the last 5-7 days…non-stop connection issues.
My best suggestion is that when you get notified of a new release, wait a week and then google the specific release number for problems before you decide to upgrade. It’s become a necessary process.
Hope they fix this soon, not cool that you can’t get to your files from outside your local network… I have tried to fix the for a week now, but no luck so far
When you do an update again, (and see problems with outside access) be sure to go to canyouseeme.org, where you can check your ports accessibility.
Your IP should already be entered, all you need to do is enter the port, (your Plex server is using) and see if this site’s port tool can see your computer, if not, then first, test your modems port forwarding, delete the Plex port then re-enter it in the modems port forwarding setup. Test again.
IF that doesn’t resolve the issue, then repeat port forwarding setup for your router, test again!
If everything checks out OK, then the issue is with the new Plex update and not your network setup.
When i log in on my server it says i have full access from outside my local network, but when i try to log in from a device not on local network, it says the server is offline… anyone who can help me a bit here?
If you have checked that your ports are working, (open and can be seen by “canyouseeme.org” then the update is the issue, as stated in earlier post above.
You will need to follow the suggestions above and downgrade to the version also suggested above. All of the how to do this is laid out above as well.
Tried something new this time when upgrading PMS to Version 1.14.1.5488,
I downloaded it from plex’s, download site directly first, (didn’t just use the upgrade button in PMS.)
Quit PMS first, then dragged and dropped Version 1.14.1.5488 on top of the old PMS App, rebooted the server and for the last two days all is well. Because I did it this way, I didn’t have to reclaim the my PMS again, like you do, when using the PMS upgrade button, (when and update becomes available.)
I don’t know if this is the difference this time, (why remote access is now woking) but all is well for now. If anything changes, I’ll post.
I should also disclose. that my PMS server is running Mac OS X 10.12.6, not the current Mac OS. Seems a lot of weird crap was happening past this OS, with certain apps I use. Apple changed the sandbox security protocols beyond this OS and that is why I have not upgraded to the current OS for now.
AsgerdurTaz, I notice your question above, (from Dec 18th) while posting above, are you referring to logging in on your server and not just using a Plex Media Player app? If so, I was having issues logging in from my phone, on to my servers web page all during December and not having any issues logging to the server hardware directly.
I kept getting and error, after logging in to my account, on any device other than the server itself. It would act like I had logged in ok, then up popped an error when the page to my server should have appeared.
All that has changed recently, (through nothing I did.) I can now login from my phone and other devices directly to the servers web interface now. I think something was wonky with the Plex account servers during December and is now fixed and working again.
UPDATE:
Thought I would post back here and let you all know that it has been 10 days sense updating to Version 1.14.1.5488, (the way I did posted above) and there has been no issues at all. Remote access has been working perfectly, not one drop of service.
Thought you would all like to know, Remote access is now working again.
I’m using a Netgear R6300 router and a ZyXEL C2100Z CenturyLink modem, with port forwarding on port 32400.
