Remote Access not working with Verizon router

Has anyone gotten remote access to work with a Verizon Quantum gateway and Google WiFi??? I am having the HARDEST time trying to get this to work. I looked at the user guide and I still can’t get it to work.

I’ve tried the following:

  • Creating a port forward on the quamtum gateway
  • Creating a port forwarding rule on the quantum gateway
  • Creating a port forward in Google WiFi
  • Changed my server to static ip

None of those seemed to work. Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Thank you,
Nico

Just to be sure. internet is coming through in Quantum then it is connected with ethernet to the google Wifi router. and your computer with server is connecting to the Google wifi router correct?

If so you need to first forward traffic through the quantum to google wifi own IP.

so forwarding would be like

Plex
external 32400
internal 32400
protocol TCP
IP of the google wifi device ( what it shows as it’s “WAN” address)

in google wifi device
Plex
external 32400
internal 32400
protocol TCP
IP of the computer

Yes, internet is going into Quantum, then connected with Ethernet to Google WiFi. From there the server is connected to the Google WiFi via Ethernet.

I will give that a try. So all of that will need to be done in the “Forwarding” section when I log into the Q router? Or are there multiple places I need to configure port forwarding?

By doing this I won’t need to manually specify a port in Plex?

I’ve also made sure the UPnP is enabled as well and that did not work.

You need to do it in the quantum and the Google Wifi ( i am assuming the google wifi is acting as a router as well.) the difference being the IP being forwarded to. in quantum you need to forward to Google Wifi devices IP. In Google Wifi device you forward to computers IP.

you have a what is a double nat because both of those are routers.

You would only need to do one of them if you can either

  1. ask verizon how to change the quatum to bridge mode so it only acts like a modem ( in which case you only forward in Goofle Wifi
  2. change the google wifi to only act as a access point in which case you forward in quantum

. The instructions in that manual for Quantam are pretty vague in port forwarding section on page 98. it looks like you need to create what they are calling an “advanced” port forward rule so you can add ports.

yes you will need to enter 32400 in there

UPnP won’t help because the two routers doubleNAT issue

Did you add 32400 to the “manually specify port” field in the servers remote access settings.

ok - funny - that was the only thing I didn’t do…entered that port and hit the checkmark and it worked…i assumed it took it as the standard…duh!
