I have read a lot of topics on here and have tried all of the suggestions but I still cannot get my remote access to work with my Verizon Quantum Router and Google Wifi. I’ve tried port forwarding, setting static IP, etc. My setup is:
Ethernet going into Verizon Router
Verizon Router connected to Google Wifi w/ 2 additional set up for a mesh network
I don’t want to disable the verizon router since I am using it for additional ethernet ports
If I start from the beginning, can I get some recommendations on
If you are using both as routers then you have a double nat. Since you want to continue to use the other port on Verizon router you either need to port forward in each router so it can do a directed jump from Verizon to the Google. Or do the forwarding in Verizon and set Google to only be an access point ( just a switch basically) that lets the Verizon assign local IPs.
You need to bridge the Google Wifi and just use it as wireless access point. Turn off the Wifi in the Fios router, but keep it as your actual router.
Now what I did with a different brand of mesh router, because I hate the Fios routers, is ditched the Fios router completely, plugged my router via ethernet to the ONT, and spent $20 on a 5 port switch (which I don’t even use any longer as I moved.) My router does have 4 LAN ports though, I think Google’s only have two?
If however you have Fios TV you have to keep using their router for proper tv guide distribution. I only have Gig internet, no TV or phone, so it didn’t matter to me.
How to do which? I don’t own either of those devices so can’t tell you specifics where the features are in them or what the buttons are named. The easiest is probably to put the Google Wifi in AP/bridge mode. Found these instructions online pretty quick. https://support.google.com/wifi/answer/6240987?hl=en ( you wan the “not recommended” instructions.
I am assuming your computer with the server running is connected to the google wifi.
With a double nat you essentially have two completely separate local networks connected to each other by the routers. The Google has no idea it is not connected directly to the outside world so what is shows for its WAN address will be the local IP assigned to it by the Verizon. The jumping i was speaking os it port forwarding in the verizon to the google. then in the google forward to your computer with server. So when setting it up in the verizon you are using the WAN address of the Google wifi. When in google you are using the ip of the computer
This definitely sounds like a double-NAT issue as @BigWheel mentioned. I currently have Fios gig internet and have had the Google mesh wifi system in the past, when I did I had to essentially remove wifi access from my Fios router and use it as my main router (as I also have TV and Phone with it) which essentially allowed my Google mesh system to be my main wifi access point.
Assuming that your sever is connected to the wifi network and not through ethernet, then this problem will continue to happen unless you turn off the wifi access point on your Fios router and allow for the google mesh system to be the primary wifi network. With that you’ll also need port forwarding on your google mesh to be setup in order for your Plex account to connect to it from an outside network.
