I have not set a static IP yes, since I assume that once I get this working I can then immediately set the static IP. Nic Desktop has my Plex server on it. Windows 10 PC. I have a DSL modem/wireless router with wireless turned off and in bridge mode. connected to the Nighthawk.
Also check that you InterNet Router’s Outside IP matches, what Plex thinks your outside IP is. My Internet provider does a NAT on everyone which messes with Plex.
Set up a static IP for your Plex server.
Go into your router and create a manual port forward rule for port 47222 (just an example but don’t use 32400), for protocol TCP, that points to your Plex server’s IP and port 32400.
Save that and power cycle your router.
Go into the Plex server remote access settings, tick the box next to manual port, enter 47222, click apply, then disable remote access, shut down and restart the Plex server application, and enable remote access.
Go to http://www.canyouseeme.org and test port 47222.
Go to http://www.whatsmyip.org and compare that IP address with what your router WAN IP is and what Plex reports as your public IP.

For this part you typed “that points to your Plex server’s IP and port 32400.

Do you have any good instructions on setting up a static IP? I have done it before with my last router, but I had to undo it to set this new router up. I tried a few online guides but no dice.
Thanks for the other tips I will try them tonight if I can.
No, Plex always uses port 32400. You have an external port of 47222 and an internal port of 32400.
You can set up a DHCP reservation in your router for your computer’s IP address, which guarantees it will always be the same. Consult your router’s documentation for instructions on how to do that.
I completed the steps as below (seemed fairly simple). Still not connecting. I posted screenshots so hopefully something can be caught. Do I need to open any ports in my firewall? I think I have 32400 open as shown in my screenshot in an above post. Thoughts?

I went in and set the DHCP reservation in my Netgear Nighthawk R7000 router to 192.168.1.5

Set the port forward for port 47222 external and 32400 internal:
Go into the Plex server remote access settings, tick the box next to manual port, enter 47222, click apply, then disable remote access, shut down and restart the Plex server application, and enable remote access.
Did that, after that this is still what i get:

Is the WAN IP in your router the same as the whatsmyip.org IP address?
As far as I can tell no. Router info screenshot is below. whatsmyip.org is 50.50.228.75
Remove what you did on your local firewall. The only port you need to open is in your router, not on your PC.
Removed it
Is your network type on your PC set to private or public?
It is set to public.
Why is your network location public? On your internal LAN you should set that to private. Public will cause Windows to shut down sharing. Set it to private, and then verify you have the proper Windows firewall entries for Plex Server for incoming connections. You should have a few entries in there, and make sure that they are enabled for private.
You are most definitely in a double NAT situation. Your WAN port is a private IP address (192.168.xx.xx is not a public IP address). Please list all of your network hardware, like this:
Plex server PC -> Netgear 24 port switch -> pfSense Router -> Arris 6190 cable modem

Good question, no idea why it is public… I changed it to private.
Firewall entries for incoming are as below:, they look to be enabled for either all or private.

Yes, those entries are correct. You have to solve your double NAT problem before you can have remote access.
I figured that may be the case. I see my DSL modem is not in bridge mode. Changing it to bridge mode disconnected the internet (didn’t reboot my router though), Maybe I need to reboot my router for it to connect properly in bridge?

I was able to switch the Netgear 7550 DSL modem/router to routed bridge mode, but I see no change. Looks like i can check “Use the following static addresses (disable DHCP Client)”, but I need to ID the settings in the boxes required.
Just did, twice. They had little info on bridge more and basically were not advanced enough to really help. Setting to pure bridge mode kills my internet completely. Routed bridge keeps the connection, but no dice…
I appreciate the assistance. I may just be SOL at this point…

If you can’t get bridge mode working, then just set up a port forward in the modem and a port forward in your router, like this:
Modem:
External port 44447, internal port 44447, TCP protocol, point to the IP of your router
Based on what is above, I assume the IP of the router you want me to use is 192.168.1.1, correct? If now what should I use? When I try to put that in in the bottom right of the 2nd screenshot below it states “LAN IP Address is not part of the Subnet”.
I have it set in the modem as (i used 47222, not 44447):
Router:
External port 44447, internal port 32400, TCP protocol, point to the static IP of your Plex Server
I have the setup from before (i used 47222, not 44447)
Configure your Plex Server remote access settings for manual port forward, enter 44447 in the box, click apply.
I have the setup from before too (i used 47222, not 44447)
