Remote access for the PMS had been working fine for a couple of years up to a month or so ago. Since then (and I am not sure what has changed) the PMS remote access moves to “Not available outside of your network” every few hours.
When it does this, I hit retry on the PMS and the remote access moves to “Disabled” after retrying. I then “Enable” it and it works for a few seconds and then goes back to “Not available outside of your network”. I go through this loop a few times until it seems to stick and work.
It will then work fine for a couple of hours and then the whole process starts again.
My IP address in the PMS remote access area is the same as the one that comes up in the ipchicken.com link you sent.
My ISP is British Telecom which is the biggest ISP in the UK.
I am not on a double NAT.
The port forwards are set correctly.
I don’t think it is a configuration issue (could be wrong) as I would expect it to just not work at all if it was. The fact that it worked previously and it now works intermittently is what is causing me issues trying to fix.
My friends PMS had the same issue after the most recent public release update. I tried the normal stuff like toggling on and off the enable remote access and didn’t work. What worked was shutting the server down and restarting it for him. Then it stayed on the green padlock.
Thanks for the reply, I have rebooted the PC a couple of times and unfortunately I am still getting the same experience; remote access is ok for a while and then just stops working.
How do I get any assistance from Plex on this? Is there a way to log a ticket?
Have static ip and port forwarding set for your server in your router? Tried rebooting modem, router and computer where server is running? There’s no ticket to log, just the forums. Can you provide any of your router settings and server Remote Access settings so we can see if everything looks ok?
Thanks again for the reply and the information regarding support. I understand. So I am looking for advice from people for things to try.
I have rebooted everything; router, switch, PC, still the same issue.
For information:
I have a Draytek Vigor 2925 router. In port redirection under NAT on this router I have 2 rules:
rule 1
Mode: Single
Service Name: Plex_TCP
Protocol: TCP
WAN Interface: All
Public Port: 32400
Source IP: Any
Private IP: 192.x.x.5 (x is just masked for this post)
Private Port: 32400
rule 2 is exactly the same except:
Service Name: Plex_UDP
Protocol: UDP
PMS Server PC
set as static ip 192.x.x.5
Thsi static IP is outside the scope of DHCP
Remote Access is set to manually specify public port: 32400
Right now, it is all green with “Fully accessible outside of your network” and everything works ok. It is 16.30 and it has been fine for several hours and will be fine for several hours, but at some point I will come back and it will be all red and will have “not available outside of your network” and I will go through the steps I mention in the initial post to get it working.
Quick Update: I have just noticed that IPv6 is enabled on the router and is giving out IPv6 addresses and that the Plex PMS server has both am IPv4 and IPv6 address - could this cause issues with Plex PMS?
Second update, I disabled IPv6 and unfortunately it has not made any difference.
I’m having a similar issue. In my setup, Plex remote access goes down for a few minutes every 12 hours, but comes back automatically (monitoring this via Tautulli notifications). The issue started recently (within last 2 weeks or so).
This is a Plex issue.
Everyone is having it in just the last month.
They’re just apparently absent to do anything about it - but apparently are still collecting customers’ money to pay for the “premium” services (which aren’t being provided/supported!)
