Remote access down since the update

I haven’t changed any other settings but remote access doesn’t work since the update.

Logs attached

I never needed to use port forwarding before so it’s not set.up.

I reset everything and it didn’t fix it.

So… I did that and now PMS says that remote access is working but when I try to access it it says Direct connection Unavailable.

Edit: Nevermind. Restarted PMS and now it says no remote connection again.

I am stepping in to help @trumpy81

I am assuming nothing has been done so please forgive if any of this is preexisting. Please do confirm the steps and results/settings.

Please do the following:

  1. Go to http://www.ipchicken.com - This will tell you your Public IP
  2. Sign into your modem. In there you will find your WAN (Wide Area Network) address

These two numbers should match
If they do not, then your ISP has created a layer of address translation beyond your local LAN. This is known as Double NAT. PMS cannot operate in this environment because the Public IP is constantly changing.

If you have verified the addresses are the same, we can proceed.

Since you having port forwarding issues, I strongly suggest you adjust the IP address of your computer (NAS or computer) to be static (an address on your LAN which will never change) It can be the current value. Simply change it from Dynamic (DHCP) to Static.

Now, while still logged into the modem, Create a “Virtual Server” to connect external port 32400, TCP protocol. to the IP address of your PMS server, also at port 32400. Save this forwarding rule.

Return to PMS, Settings - Server - Remote access.

Enable Remote access, It will try to connect… Let it be stupid if it wants. haha
If it establishes a connection, see what port is used. If external and internal ports are 32400, you are all done.

If not, When the previous attempt has had time let go of the port (about 3-4 minutes), Check the box “Manually specify port” and enter “32400”.
Now click “Retry”.

It will take a moment and then respond with green and being connected.

Before you exit this page… SAVE CHANGES.

Ok, so I went through and double checked everything. The IP numbers match, I have it set to static, and enabled port forwarding in the router.

When I try to enable remote access in the PMS it shows the private IP as the IP I set for the static. The Public IP is the one thats in the WAN settings. And both ports are 32400.

But it doesnt work.

I am writing this up and will speak to the senior team ASAP.

If you still have the previous installation file, I suggest you revert to it.

Yea, I reverted back to a few previous versions and still had the same issue. I’m completely stumped.

This is a dedicated plex machine so a fresh reformat of everything wouldn’t be all that inconvenient if that might help?

If you don’t mind doing it, then revert to what you know works; delete the Library and start fresh.

Please let us know what you do get stable again.

this one finally worked for me!! after three days of trouble shooting.

Do you know if it is indeed down just saying under settings that is not available outside your network?

I’m asking because my server is saying not available since the last update, but it is still working fine. I switched from automatic port to manual port and after switching it will go green just to change back to red after a little while. Right now it says not available outside my network, but I just tested on my phone outside my wi-fi and it worked fine.

I think the issue is not on the access itself, but on the status indicator in settings.

One more thing: I use the option in PlexPy to notify me when the remote access is down and it hasn’t notified me one in the past few days, which corroborates my suspicion that the issue is in that status indicator in settings only.

Ok I figured it out.

It was an issue with my specific router and opening up ports.

Thanks for all your help.
