IPVanish
I have spent countless hours trying to find any information on getting remote access through a VPN. IS ANYBODY RUNNING A VPN AND REMOTE ACCESS IS WORKING???
ANYBODY???
ANY VPN???
Does IPVanish have any sort of split tunneling feature?
That’s usually the best and easiest solution. You don’t really need a VPN for remote streams. That traffic is already encrypted
Set port forwarding in your VPN to forward port 32400 to your internal server port 32400.
Turn OFF remote access inside PMS.
Under PMS network settings set “Custom server access URLs” to https://ip.of.your.vpn:port
Once you have remote access working set your server access URL to: https://lan.ip.of.your.plex.server:32400,https://ip.of.your.vpn:32400
so local clients work correctly.
They do but is for their android app for Fire TV.
It doesn’t look like they support port forwarding either?
I will switch to ANY VPN that supports port forward.
I gave up and I have my personal PC with a VPN and the Plex server without.
I’ve been dealing with this since the end of August. Never touched one setting and then one day, POOF, can’t access remotely. I’ve seen in other threads where you’ll upload your log and many folks had outdated permissions which needed to be updated, but never was able to get them to look at mine. Running NORDVPN on Windows 10 and gone through the countless steps with no success. Any suggestions?
Since around September NordVPN made significant changes to their service to beef up the security of the VPN tunnels and authentication however NordVPN never actually supported port forwarding anyway, so whilst is kind of worked with Plex’s 32400 port previously it is extremely difficult to get it working now unless significant changes are made to IP Tables etc.
The main question should be Why do you want PMS to go through a VPN?
If you have supporting applications that need access to certain things and they should be behind a VPN then place those behind a VPN docker container, ideally have those supporting applications in docker containers too and have them use VPN container’s network.
Gluetun is one NordVPN container I highly recommend.
