Remote access slew of bugs

Server Version#:NA
Player Version#:NA
I NA’s all above because I’m too disgusted to find out. I am on the latest server, hoping it would fix what I perceived as server problems. But no – problems persist. The client on my NVIDIA SHIELD is frozen at a version before the TrueHD bug (ya know, the one that it stopped working, just one of the many regressions).
Now, I know someone is going to complain about my complaining. So let me tell you up front that I’m not even going to bother looking for a response.
I am sick of the bugs and regressions in Plex. Apparently they are hiring people that have no idea how the product works, and just throw junk in.
Above I alluded to the TrueHD problem. I was ON an old version of the server and client, but “upgraded” so I could be on the same version as my neighbor. Big mistake on my part because it’s been after bug after bug since then.
So let me get to some of the points about REMOTE ACCESS. FOR YEARS it has been telling me that I do not have remote access, when in fact I do. If I say to “try again,” it says I have remote access and then says I don’t. So I’m used to seeing a red X or whatever it is. If I click PLUGINS (for ExportTools) it immediately turns green and stays that way for a long while. Just a bug I have been dealing with forever. I gave up trying to use two network connections.
Now, “for years” I was able to get my music to play remotely (even if Plex said remote access was not available). And I was on at one point a version of client+server where I could download movies to the phone and view them. Then they made an incompatible chage, making me lose all those downloaded files. Still, was I able to view them “remotely” from house-to-phone? Amazingly, YES at times. But that stopped recently. I can now no longer even play movies on my phone. I used to be able to do this. Just another regression in Plex. I am used to them, but they are so aggravating. As perhaps this message is to some, but I am complaining because I AM SICK OF THIS!
I’m not done. I have “Alexa.” I used to be able to select and play a playlist (via Plex skill) while I was in the shower. Some months ago this stopped working. I figured it was an Alexa (AMAZON) bug. With no fix, I called it in. Alexa Support was useless: they told me to contact Plex on my own. It DID occur to me that maybe, just maybe, this was a Plex bug. So I tried playing music on my phone, and it starts the song and then stops. As for Alexa, she says “Play the playlist XXX” and then no sound comes out. Plex says it’s playing something.
So the bottom line is movies do not play and music starts and then stops.
And another thing – when I play music remotely, the Plex Dashboard says it’s indirect or some such, but below that it says Direct Play. I have a 5G phone, and gigabit Internet at home. The problem is with the S/W. My plex server is on one subnet, and Alexa is on another. They can talk to one another on layer 3. And I have Plex configured to use two subnets as local. THis setup worked for a very long time (on and off depending on which Plex bugs came and went). But now nothing works remotely.
As a further aside like above, I have a TV Tuner. While that has improved in functionality quite a bit, it still can abort, etc. Recently I had to reboot everything to get around the bugs. I don’t know whose fault the bugs were: Plex, Android, NVIDIA SHIELD, etc. Rebooting does not fix any of the remote problems, but it does fix the local problems at time.
I bought Plex back in the day when it was FOR MY USE FOR MY VIDEOS, etc. It has become much more than that, and adding all that crap THAT I DO NOT WANT has broken it and continues to break things on and off.
Maybe someone running “Plex, Inc” will look at this and realize they are doing a disservice to the people that helped them stay afloat.
And I reiterate: I am not going to bother checking for any replies, so save your invective. It is not my nature to be quarrelsome, etc. I AM JUST SICK OF THE PLEX BUGS! I have too much time, money, and tech invested in my use of tech, so suggesting I move on is not the solution. The solution is hiring programmers with the wisdom to know not to touch code that they do not understand. The flip side would be much more inclusive regression testing. SOMETHING to make sure the S/W we install doesn’t break main, important features. I can be in the middle of a movie, and the screen just blanks and I’m back at the main Android screen: I can only assume the Plex client “crashed.”
I am not going edit and/or look for typos in this message. For all I know, the editor will delete it. I am just going to wait for fixes. It’s all I can do other than vent like now when it becomes too much…

Tempted, but as you stated, you where venting

When said, we simply can’t use your post, since:

  • You broke ground rule No. 1 with having more than one issue you are facing in a single post, sorry…
    • Doing so, makes this thread a one size fits all, and nothing good will ever come from this!
  • You didn’t tell us the version of your PMS, but simply said latest!
    • But is this the latest PP version, or the latest public version?
    • And when did you check, since a new PMS version was just released!
  • Regarding Remote Access, then please help us helping you!
    • Describe your setup, like:
      • I have firewall X
      • I use static IP, and did port forward
      • My ISP is Y

And I could continue, but will not

Please don’t take this the wrong way, but in order for us to help you, you do need to help us!
So will instead close this thread, and urge you to create separate threads for each of your issues, with as much info as you can, both server, network and client wise, and logs are most helpful here, right after reproducing
