Remote Access Stopped Working

This started out of no where early this morning. I started getting notifications that my server’s remote access was down. I’ve tried everything to get it back up including restart the server software, and then the whole PC. I upgraded to the latest Plex Pass version of PMS which fixed it for about 5 minutes and then it went back down. I tried to restore my windows firewall to see if that would help, but it did not. I finally uninstalled PMS and reinstalled and this didn’t work either. I’m not sure what else to try. Every once in a while when I apply the manual port in the settings it will work for about 2 minutes but then go back down. I haven’t made any changes recently to my networking setup.

I tried to check the PMS logs and I’m frequently seeing:

ERROR - Error issuing curl_easy_perform(handle): 28

and

ERROR - Error issuing curl_easy_perform(handle): 56
WARN - HTTP error requesting GET http://plex.tv/pms/:/ip (0, No error) (Recv failure: Connection was reset)

I’m not sure if this is related to the issue I’m having. Any help would be super appreciated!

I’m running the latest PMS release on Windows 10. Port 32400 is open on my router. I’ve attached my logs.

PMSLog_RemoteAccess.txt (47.1 KB)

Also, often I’ll end up with this that says its accessible but its not:

+1 same issues here.

Same problem here aswell but on PMS for synology 916+

I’m glad I checked here… I’ve had Tautulli reporting my remote access being down and then up again every 10 minutes or so since 3:55am EDT this morning. Looking in the plex app, server settings, remote access, I sometimes see it down and sometimes don’t… I haven’t yet done much testing from outside my network, but seeing others reporting issues I’m thinking it might have to do with plex.tv themselves?

I just seen in another thread that UDP 1900 has to be open also. I am doing that now to see if that helps my issue.

Since when? Why?
[EDIT - I did some looking, and found that it’s not new, it’s related to DLNA… and not related to external-world basic remote access]

So maybe my problems are different.

Yeah it didn’t help with my issue. I was just trying to get it working again. I really think this is tied to the latest beta build. There needs to be a way to (update) to the last stable build when there are issues like this. The last time I uninstalled to install the stable build I had to re-download all the metadata.

I think it has something to do with secure connections. Once I disabled it on my player it connected right up.

I’m in the same boat, using Windows 7 as a server. Just noticed it today.

Same problem too. Only have one apple TV that Plex is running great, then tried Roku Tv that says server unreachable… yet everything is the same.

I am sorry I would need full logs zip. An issue appears to have occurred before the log extract you attached. Subsequently an error in connecting to plex.tv but without the first few lines of the log file I cannot establish the timezone so that we can check status of plex.tv at the time

Here is the full log zip. As a note the issue seems to have resolved itself. This is surely an odd one.

Plex Media Server Logs_2018-07-29_07-48-01.zip (5.4 MB)

Thanks for the logs. They do show about 200 requests timing out - and during the same period about 1600 requests were successful. It goes over a number of hours - so it is not failure due to short outage. It could be some network issue between your server and plex.tv systems or problem with your router.

Wireshark capture would help here and I can look at it if you zip and send me privately and let me know the time period covered by the capture.

I suspect you are running Tautulli and it is making requests to plex.tv every minute to check remote access. See this forum topic for discussion on that Random loss of remote - hundreds of pubsub async errors

If there was any rate limiting being applied (due to the volume of requests), I would expect a specific response code rather than a timeout

Thanks for looking into this, and on a Sunday no less! You are correct, I am using Tautulli which is how I was getting the remote access notifications. Reading through that other thread it looks like that might be the root cause. As I mentioned earlier, the problem is no longer happening but If it does reappear I’ll try to grab some Wireshark captures for you.

I have Tautulli as well, but I have the same issues regardless if it is running.

And I’ve never even heard of Tautulli, and I had the problem from yesterday afternoon through at least midnight (Eastern Time). This morning, it’s working properly again.

The issue has just started up again. I’ll see if I can grab more logs.

Would need logs with debug logging enabled covering time when remote access gets lost - (when not running Tautulli for remote access checks)
