I’m having a recurring issue with PMS. It repeatedly and randomly loses remote access. There’s no pattern that I’ve noticed. Sometimes I can disable then re-enable and remote access will work. Sometimes I have to close out PMS altogether and restart for it to work. Either way, it might last an hour, it might last a few days. More often I have to turn remote access back on several times a day.
I’m running Windows 10 Home, 64 bit. I have a Linksys dual band router. I have followed the guide and done all the steps as required. I have it ported to 32400 as suggested and it’s on a static I.P. address. Remote access works, it’s just not stable. For what it’s worth, I made sure the PC running the server doesn’t sleep, hibernate or anything like that. It’s on 24/7.
I have included my logs. I will be happy to answer any questions.
After the latest update of Version 1.13.4.5251 I have noticed this too. Remote Access is now constantly turning on and off (like few minutes now)… I have looked over all steps in the thread:
EDIT: And also looked at the steps in this thread too:
I am considering trying reinstalling or repairing the PMS installation… but now seeing that this thread has appeared I am a little iffy re the latest PMS update.
EDIT: I can confirm that the repair of my PMS did not fix this issue. Plex remote access is now continually disconnecting and reconnecting every few minutes… it seems to happen every 10 -30 minutes in a continual cycle?
I should also note that I am running Version 1.13.4.5251 which just updated a couple of days ago. However, I actually been having this problem for a couple of months or so. I’ve read through several threads related to this topic and found nothing that would work for me.
I too am now experiencing constant loss of remote access since upgrading to 1.13.4.5251 and even the latest 1.13.4.5271
I have rolled back to 1.13.2.5102 for testing purposes and remote access works perfectly.
To the PLEX devs that (may) be monitoring this thread: I think you have a problem here that needs urgent fixing. PLEX without remote access is pretty much pointless.
One of my machines updated to 1.13.4.5271 and lost remote access after a few minutes and I could not get it to return. Remote access has worked perfectly with the port forwarded in the router and a static ip. I checked firewall and router again to be sure nothing had changed.
I finally uninstalled and went back to 1.13.4.5251 and immediately that machine showed remote access in the green again.
Not sure why it affected this machine and not my other windows machine. The other one is on 1.13.4.5271 and it hasn’t lost remote access. Other than this one has an older processor the only difference between the two boxes is this one is hard wired and the other is wireless AC.
I recently had the new update… 1.13.4.5271 myself. So far I’ve stayed connected. Could just be a coincidence but hopefully that update fixed something. As for Synology and DSM whatever, I have no idea what that is. I couldn’t find anything on my PC relating to that so I’m assuming it does not apply to me. I do appreciate the replies and I hope everyone else having this issue is able to get it worked out.
Having this same issue… can’t find a fix on this version… can anyone explain how to rollback my version/ download an old version so I can actually have remote access enabled? Wish I had never downloaded this update, it’s rendered Plex totally useless for me…
I have a 1.13.2.5142 listed, however not a 1.13.2.5102? Is anyone able to confirm the past update that indeed rollbacks to when PMS remote access was working properly?
Same here. Lost Remote Access since last update. Wasted 3 hours troubleshooting and checking my network setup even resetting and flashing latest firmware on my router. Bloody unacceptable, Plex isn’t in beta. Sort it out.
Since my last post I’ve had to restart my remote access 3 times. I’ve had my troubles ever since I got it enabled originally, which was a few months ago. Not sure rolling back versions will help for me. I was hoping that I would get some suggestions of some things to look out for or try from the Plex guru’s.
I also join in the frustration in regards to remote access. It is a key component of my use of plex and has been great in the past.
I recently updated to the new versions of plex and lost all remote access as well. I run QNAP server. After losing remote access I tried all sorts of things to get it to work. The only thing that worked was reverting back to version 1.13.2.5102 (thankfully I use mac to download server versions and was still saved in time machine…).
Also as of note my remote access stays red but I am able to access remotely and all of my friends are able to access remotely at this time. I know there are many of us that continue to try different work arounds but it seems to me it is pointing to plex software issues if returning to old version makes it work again. +1 for getting this sorted out!
I second the above comment. I have now backdated and reinstalled the 1.13.2.5142 Plex server update, and it seems remote access is now back online, and steady, despite the Plex web app remote access tab flashing off and on, red and yellow constantly, and sending out constant notifications via tautulli and pushover (if enabled).
There has also now been a Tautulli update that came out hours ago, which may or may not have addressed some issues/or this issue, being the version V2.1.17-Beta, with release log found at -https://github.com/Tautulli/Tautulli/releases/tag/v2.1.17-beta .
I am however not willing to re update my PMS server to the current update until I am sure that this problem has been sorted and confirmed. And let’s not forget the remote access tab that continually flashes red and yellow when clearly everything is working fine.
This issue happens to me when I actually have UPNP turned off in my router settings… and when I use the manual port specified, with all port forwarding set up correctly and even confirmed that the port is indeed open, it still happens regardless. Not convinced its due to UPNP, although apparently its best to turn it off and manually configure
Remote turning on and off has been happening to me for months.
Daily or hourly or weekly - randomly
On Windows 10 and qnap and synology servers.
I have/had them all set correctly with port forwarding .
Usually when I loose connection I UN-click “manually specify public port”
If that fails I click Disable then Enable Remote access.
And /Or re-click “manually specify public port”
98% of the time doing the remote dance works for me.
This is very disappointing. I was hoping a Plex dev would post something, anything. So far they have been silent. This is a frustrating problem that apparently many of us are having. Rolling back versions is not a solution. It’s a temporary fix. However, from what I can tell from this post and reading other posts with the similar issue, it’s not a problem Plex takes seriously. I don’t have to have Plex to play my media. I don’t have to have Plex to play my media remotely. There are other ways to do it. I prefer Plex to do these things which is why I pay for it. I can stop doing that as well.
It’s possible my problem isn’t even a Plex issue. It could be my pc or network. I guess I’ll never know because Plex has no customer support other than the forums. Plex is very cool but I can’t see them growing very much if they can’t make this more user friendly for dummy’s like me and provide actual customer support. Just my 2 cents though.
I’m having the same problem. Sometimes it works. Sometimes it doesn’t. I have mine setup with a manually specified port and port forwarding. If I VPN into my home network, it works fine all the time.
Ditto on the problem. I have found Remote Access doesn’t work when using a VPN or an outdated server. However, lately it shows up green in “Fully accessible outside your network” but can’t actually connect to anything. It will occasionally connect, but I hvae found no pattern. For reference I use Windows 10, and check on an iPhone to see if it can connect; sometimes Vizio TV on a different network.
I’m having the issue too. I have a Cisco firewall at my house with NAT and Access Control configured properly. Manually-specified port in the Plex interface. It shows that remote access it not available (from within the local Plex instance) and when I load it via app.plex.tv it shows an “Indirect” connection.
I’m able to load it remotely though, if I open a web browser and type in my home IP address and port number, so it’s definitely configured properly.
I’m running Plex Media Server on MacOS High Sierra (hardwired Mac mini Server).
