Remote access to my Plex server keeps dropping server-windows

Remote access to my Plex server keeps dropping. This happened a few months ago. My husband travels all over for work and hasn’t been able to connect through the app on his laptop for a long time. I am running the server on my Windows 10 laptop and Plex server is running the current version (I read previous articles.) The help for setting the correct port or the settings on the router are over my head. My network uses the router supplied by my Internet provider, Centurylink, with 1 gig fiber optic in my home. I know how to log into the router but don’t know where to check or change the settings. I need help.

It appears Cyberlink is using a wide portfolio of routers from Technicolor, Zyxel and Actiontec (just to name some).

There’s a homepage which offers guides on how to setup a port-forward for different routers/modems – maybe this can give you a hint.

Once you know the public port used for the remote access, check if it’s actually accessible from outside your home network (you can e.g. do that using pages/services like canyouseeme.org). This will indicate if the issue is between “the internet” / your ISP / the router or if it’s an issue within your home network / the Plex Media Server.

There’s quite a number of obstacles when it comes to remote access… so let’s first rule out the big ones.
