My Plex server had been working fine for about a month or two, I have plex pass (lifetime). For whatever reason it’s not available outside of my network. I’m new to this sort of stuff so I’m not sure what to do. Does anyone know what to do or how to contact Plex support (I could not find it)? Thank you in advance and if more info is needed or would help please let me know and I’ll share it
Do you have port 32400 opened on your firewall with a port forwarding rule pointing at your Plex server, and is your Windows firewall configured to allow inbound connections on 32400?
I find it very strange that several people are having problems with remote. Could this be an escalated problem?
I’m sorry but I don’t know what this means. Could you help me out on that by chance? Thank you
Maybe this will help: What Is Port Forwarding? - A Beginner's Guide and The Basics of Remote Access Troubleshooting
I’m sorry to be the stick in the mud, but the recent PlexTV upgrades has rendered my server unusable and all the “help pages/forums” state No Port Forwarding should be enabled. I am totally lost, in my 10 years of PlexTV use I never had this problem before. Don’t know which way is up. I factory wiped my AiMesh routers and deleted my AVG Internet Security to utilize Windows Defender Security software and nothing works! Starting to have a bad feeling about PlexTV.
To be able to remotely access your server (outside of your local network) unless you’re doing something exotic like a reverse proxy (Nginx or HAProxy for example) you will absolutely have to do a port forward through your router.
This has been a hot topic lately with ISPs converting to CG-NAT.
If you can’t see your open Public Port by using this tool, you may need to contact your provider and Opt out of CG-NAT or if not available purchase a Fixed IP which has a fee per month, unlike the previous being free.
I don’t have mine hooked up to my router does that matter?
Ok I’ve looked through this. I have the “manually specify public port” on with 32400 in. Next to 32400 there is a red X between where it says internet, so it’s not going beyond that. Whenever I restart the remote access it’s available for a couple of seconds then it’s not again
You must have a Internet connection for Authentication with Plex
I do have an internet connection, it’s just not connected directly to the router
So you have a port forwarding rule in your router with 32400 for Local and Public ports, destination address is your Server/ computer LAN IP address. If that is in place and you don’t have more than One Router or switch Double NAT is not applicable
I think. Is that where it has a private IP then 32400 a green arrow then a public IP with 32400?
That is your Plex Remote access settings. You need to go to Router settings and look for port reservations or Port forwarding.
Do you know how to login to your router?
Have a look at the documents I linked earlier in this thread.
I do not
A lot of Routers have instructions on the base as for the default. If you have a manual or website for your ISP instructions.
Normally it is a IP address added to Web Browser address bar and then your prompted for admin Name and Password from the Router interface.
Would I need to do this if it worked before? Could it be something else?
You’re saying you have previously been able to view your content while outside of your house on cellular or another network? If so, you’re also saying you don’t know how to login to your router? If both of those are true, who setup the port forwarding for you initially?
