Remote Access - Wrong IP Address

Server Version#: 1.16.0.1226

Hi,

My issue is my Plex server seems to be periodically picking up the wrong IP address(VPN address instead of my WAN ISP). It works for a hour or two before it tries to connect to my VPN public address. My VPN does not support port forwarding, so I have the connection pointing towards a split-tunnel directing toward my WAN with a port forward that successfully works, until it doesn’t…

Going through the logs it looks like the PublicAddressManager gets confused and GETS the VPN address instead of my WAN. See screenshot of the log point it grabs the wrong IP.

I have the preferred network interface facing the WAN IP. My ds918+ has two ports. Ethernet 0 is the VPN and Ethernet 1 is the WAN ISP.

Please help in finding a solution to this. I have attached a log file. Issue seems to start around Jun 17, 2019 17:04.

Update: Also I have verified there is no double NAT issue. My modem is in bridge mode to my router in case that’s what you were thinking .

In theory that should work. Unfortunately, it actually doesn’t work at all for some reason. It won’t even filter through the correct interface at all anymore. I don’t understand why it won’t. I’ve tried resetting everything and resetting it back up to no avail. I’m thinking it may be due to my vpn’s(expressvpn) restrictive nature that’s giving me the grief.

Two things I’ll try and post my results over the next few days.

  1. Flash my router with DD-WRT and manually configure/ a VPN server whenever I need to change it. Then go through my steps again.

  2. Try the solution that worked in the link you posted and see if I have better results from there.
