Remote Access

Server Version#:4.63.0
Player Version#:

So for years, I have had a static ip address and a port specified so that Plex has remote access. Has worked flawlessly for several years. Now it shows that I do not have remote access, even though I have changed nothing, other than to update my system with Plex updates to Plex Media Server. Any ideas on how to get this working correctly again? I have disabled the firewall on my PC but doesn’t seem to help. When I try to test it, it connects to remote access and within a fraction of a second shows remote access not permitted.

  1. Have you verified your server is actually no longer available outside your home network? Sometimes the remote access status indicator can be off.
  2. Have you verified if the router’s public IP address is still available on the specified public port from outside your home network (e.g. using a service such as canyouseeme.org)?

I’m glad it’s not just me. After many months of (mainly) error-free remote access, all of a sudden (following the recent PMS upgrades), the facility seems to randomly failing.
This even affected me on my local network when using a browser and connecting via https://app.plex.tv/desktop/#! (which is my bookmark)
In the past (as an administrator), I would go to Remote Access, see it was red, and the disable/re-enable it. It always sprang back into life.
This time I couldn’t even get back to the screen to re-enable it.
Thankfully I go RDP directly to the PMS itself and reset the connection. Everything sprang back into life.

I would really like an option that tests port connection from, and turn Plex Remote Access back on if available. I already use canyouseeme, org on the PMS server (from that time there was continual Remote Access drop outs).

BTW, believe me when I say nothing has changed, not the firewall, the DHCP, nothing at all. Oh, except for the updates to the very recent Plex Media Server (for Windows).

To answer @tom80H 1) yes, it is down as I have friends who use it and have complained to me (all in the last week); and 2) is verified using canyouseeme (as stated above)

Hello everyone,

I also had issues with remote access running Version 1.24.3.5033; I have a Cox modem (public IP 174.67.x.xx) that is setup as a bridge to my google nest router (192.168.x.xx) which is wired to my Netgear NAS (192.168.x.xx).

I tried these troubleshooting steps: (I believe) The port forwarding on the Google router is set correctly (internal port 32400 to external 32405 TCP/UDP), and my netgear NAS has a static IP address that has a IP reservation on the Google router (both 192.168.x.xx). The Google router has UPnP enabled, IPV6 disabled, DCHP selected, and DNS set to automatic. The setting for security on the plex server is set to preferred. After messing with all that, the remote access on plex now indicates as green and everything appears to be working, hope this helps someone!

Edit: I had another issue that dealt with the quality of the videos that was preventing them from playing outside the LAN/WLAN. Setting everything to maximum and then removing the throttle on my mobile device (still in the plex settings) allowed everything to be played.
