Remote Access stopped working

Im signed in to Plex but is not reachable from outside. I have clicked enable remote access. It would say for a second accessible and them become un-accessible. Even If I manually specify port it does the same thing. I have a Windows 10 computer and have turned off any firewalls and have tested to make sure port 32400 is open. This just recently happened 3 days ago. I have version 1.19.1.2701 of plex running. Any ideas anyone?

Just to be clear… is this about the remote access status indicator in the Plex remote access settings or do are you actually not able to access your content from outside your home network?

If you have verified that remote access is actually broken…
would you mind sharing some more details on your network setup?

  • are you able to access your router’s public IP address through the defined public port from outside your home network (e.g. using canyouseeme.org)?
  • if you’re using a manual port forward… have you configured the respective port in both the router and within the Plex remote access settings?
  • anything fancy about your home network setup (e.g. different networks / double NAT or maybe some knowingly created different subnets)?
  • …

Yes, I am not able to access content outside the home network.

  • I check on canyouseeme.org and it could no see my plex service.

  • I tried manual port forwarding for both router ( followed steps in plex guides) and on the remote plex settings.

  • Nothing fancy as far as setup. Stopped windows firewalls, no VPN, no double NAT, and no separate subnets.

  • Have a asus ac86u router with no fancy setup. It has been working before until about 3 days ago.

Do you have a static or router assigned fixed IP address for your Plex server? Asus refers to the latter as “Manually Assigned IP around the DHCP list.”

If not, wondering if the IP address of your Plex server changed, and no longer aligns with the port forwarding statement in your router.

FYI, the status shown on PMS remote access page has been unreliable lately, with many false negatives. The screenshot below shows remote access is not working from my system. However, a family member was streaming remotely when the screenshot was taken. Best to verify things with canyouseeme.org.

Once you checked the hints given by FordGuy61 – you might still try to use a different external port for your port forward (make sure to configure it in both, the router as well as Manually specify public port). This could help if the ISP is actively blocking that specific port.

If none of it works, you might want to contact your ISP if they apply any kind of blocking to your network communication (and if so, if they’re willing to create an exception, unblocking this for you).

FordGuy61,

I had static IP. I he same settings on the router as you had on the screen shot. What i did to fix it is I removed it, re-added it. Disabled port forwarding on router and then enabled it again. Then went to plex app and click on apply for manually specify port and it now works. Thank you both for your help.
