Remote Control / Plex Companion doesn't work

Hi,

neither “Plex for Windows” nor “Plex HTPC” (on Windows) can’t be remote controlled by the Plex Android Client… Its not showing up when i click on the “Remote Control Icon” in the Android App…

I already read this: Plex Companion Remote Control Issues | Plex Support without success…

My server is not on my local network, its hosted in a datacenter and im using nginx to make it publicy available on a TLD. But i don’t think the server should have to do anything with it… since its just 2 clients communicating inside my local network. My PC and Android device can communicate with each other.

“Plex for Windows” cannot be remote controlled anymore.
“Plex HTPC” is supposed to work though.

Verify that:

  • both the computer with Plex HTPS on it and the Android phone are connected to the same local network
  • there is a Plex Media Server running in the same local network

any plex media server or the plex media server that im trying to stream from?
Anyways why do i need a plex media server in my home network for that to work?

Any Plex server. It doesn’t even have to have any media content on it.

To act as a companion relay.

Okay i see. Can this be “fixed”?

I just installed a plex media server on my computer. and its reachable through the web. Its not marked as offline on my phone. But i still can’t either see the Plex Linux or Plex HTPC (also linux) client as a remote in my phone. Im on a linux 5.19 arch system.
Do the plex linux clients even already support being remote controlled?
