Please provide a way for smartphones to reliably Play, Pause, and modulate the volume for DLNA streams. Many DLNA TV’s are unable to perform this function, so having the option to accomplish this at the server, triggered by a smartphone remote application, would be beneficial.
Likewise, for HDMI setups using the Plex Media Player, it would be fantastic to substitute a nearby smartphone instead of having to reach for a keyboard and mouse.
You may need to install PMS 1.20.3.3421. Available at plex.tv/download. Move the slider to turn on Plex Pass downloads, which are the beta builds. Since you do not have a Plex Pass it will not enable any Plex Pass features. However, you will get any bug fixes included in the build. It is beta s/w, so there may be some new, unidentified issues as well.
No, the beta won’t help with DLNA playback. Plex clients are not DLNA clients so they cannot control the DLNA player on your TV. A DLNA server is included for backwards compatibility for devices that couldn’t install an official Plex client. You’ll need to find an actual DLNA client for your phone.
No. That is pretty much the opposite of my response.
You inquired about remote control of Plex Media Player using a smartphone app.
That has been available for quite some time via the Plex Companion feature.
The latest PMS beta build has a bug fix for Plex Companion. I was making you aware of it in case the feature did not work with the PMS release you are currently running.
