Remote streaming not direct from server but always fallsback to 720P 2mbps through relay

Server Version#: 1.42.2.10156
Player Version#: WebPlayer 4.147.1

It looks like all video is played externally is played through relay and not directly from my Plex server. I run my plex server on my Synology NAS DS918+ DSM 7.2.2-72803. All players externally are falling back to 720p and 2mbps when playing from internet. Playing from my LAN I have no issues.

I’ve configured port forwarding on my Ubiquiti UDMpro and it shows correct on my plex server. I have a PiHole for DNS in my network but even if I allow everything (for 30 minutes) then I still have the issue. I have no double NAT, and my ISP does not use CGNAT as described in the troubleshoot article. Attached is my plex server log. I tried to play something remotely around 10:15 on 31-10-2025. I’m a little bit out of ideas what it could be and need some help.

There should be a checkbox to disable/enable the relay. The relay is capped at 4mbps if memory serves.

It is capped at 2mbps with Plex Pass, and 1 mbps without Plex Pass.

Disabling Relay will probably just disable remote access in general.

Plex doesn’t show what you have configured in your router.
It can tell you the result of the access test that plex.tv is performing.
This page is for telling Plex what you have configured in your router.
