Remove "Go Premium" button from all users while on a PlexPass enabled server

  • Isn’t PlexPass suppose to be applicable to the PMS?
  • Why is it being presented as a user based restriction?
  • Does a PlexPass grant a user (who will never setup a PMS) benefits when accessing a NON-PlexPass enabled server?
  • Is it the intention of the Plex Team that everyone should buy a PlexPass, even users in the same household?

I have to ask, these questions, because why else would that button be there? How else am I or my PMS users honestly suppose to interpret it?

You have created a system that benefits a muti-user household by allowing the separation of watched content via multiple accounts. While yes, you can create “managed accounts”, for full functionality you still must create full Plex account and then add that account to Plex Home (every iOS user who wants to use restrictions, or anyone that wants to scrobble to last.fm …knows that they have no choice here)

If it is really your intention that we should all buy a PlexPass, then I will buy it. I support you guys, but your sending a mix message here (or atleast I think you are). Also, $300 is kind of steep for the daughter and my wife. (maybe a discount…)

I love you guys, but there has to be some kind of compromise here.

I will also add that I have had to explain PlexPass, to almost every single new friend or family member that I have added to my library. They all thought that they needed to buy it, just to receive those listed benefits on my server. I mean go and look at it for a second, what else should they think?

  • Upgrade to the Best Experice! (that is the first big and bold line)
(It’s misleading…if I didn’t hold you all in such regard I might say “deliberately misleading”)

It certainly doesn’t let them know that they are already receiving most benefits.

(I am ignoring the free app thing…how long has it been now that iOS users have not been able to benefit. I know I have bought the app like 4x atleast…iOS family sharing is fairly new thing). That is for another discussion, and no matter what it says the apps are not free either way, you are paying for the PlexPass still…it’s just more un-free to iOS users.

on synology, edit this file:
/volume1/@appstore/Plex Media Server/Resources/Plug-ins-29f6d1796/WebClient.bundle/Contents/Resources/js/main-1-5e147fb05f10a421c106-plex-3.39.5-cafe702.js

if you dont have this file, go and find it:
example:
cd to the app dir
find ./ -type f -exec grep plex-pass-label {} ; -print
find plex-pass-label in the file,
a few characters to the right: change “Go Premium” to “”

that will do it.

2021 clean-up: obsolete (not all Plex Pass features apply to the server as implied in this thread; a number of premium features apply to the account holder – e.g. use of Plexamp, Skip Intro…)
