Remove "Stations" from Plex-Web, Roku and Android Interfaces

How do I remove the “STATIONS” section from the Music Hub?

The “STATIONS” section includes the following 3 options/buttons:

• Library Radio
• Time Travel Radio
• Random Album

Random Album is the only one that works. The other 2 return an error message (see photo, below).

These ‘stations’ require you to have

• a music library with more than a few artists
• a music library which fetches either its metadata from last.fm or from Gracenote (i.e. if you set the metadata agent for your msuic library to ‘Personal Media’ it won’t work.)

You can verify the above if you take a look at your ‘artist’ preplay pages. If they have ‘similar artists’ under the local albums list, you have the necessary data for the radios to operate.

The ‘Stations’ hub cannot be removed, AFAIK.

Thanks for the info/clarification.

This is not good news for those of us who curate our own music libraries (i.e. use “Personal Media”). I do not use Last.fm or Gracenote, or any external source, for music metadata.

Your own metadata cannot provide the type of relational info we are using here.
There is no meta tag which says: “this artist is similar to artists x,y and z” or “the most popular tracks of this artist are a, b, and c”.
So we are using last.fm which can happily provide that info.

And there is a way to always prefer your embedded meta tags and only use last.fm to fill in the things that are missing from the embedded tags (or which Plex cannot read from them).
So, in my opinion, there is no need to strictly go the ‘Personal Media’ way.

I am using this approach in my own library.
I have no issues with last.fm overwriting my own data.
I can have several different versions of the same album (because I collect some artist’s albums) and there is no mixup with other albums etc.

Little tip: If you have lots of bootlegs etc. you want to bring your embedded metatags into order first. Then you need to have the Local Media Assets agent in top position. I wouldn’t trust last.fm to fetch correct info about bootlegs and special editions of albums, like those recent expanded re-releases of Zappa albums. Put as much info into the meta tags as possible. Put a cover art inside the album folder and you should be good. Makes sure to set at least ‘AlbumArtist’ and ‘AlbumTitle’ to…

I appreciate all of the info and insight.

That said, my desire to remove the “STATIONS” buttons has little to do with how I manage metadata and everything to do with my listening habits. I’m never at a loss for what to listen to. Therefore, I don’t have a need for these features.
