Rename a plex media server, gotchas?

I’m preparing to rename my Plex server, not the host machine, the PMS name. Is there a how-to that I missed while searching? I don’t think changing the name will be difficult, but what I don’t know is what may break. I don’t want to lose the statistics, watched status, etc. It would be a shame to accidentally cause a stat reset.

My thought is simply to select a day in the future to perform the renaming. I would instruct my users to select the pull-down to find the new name?

I put ‘-DEV’ in my server name … way back in the beginning. I want to remove that piece of the name.

There is nothing special about changing the Friendly Name unless you have other things linked to that name.

Plex.tv keeps track of your server by its ID number, not its name. This gives you the freedom to name it as you wish.

I was able to successfully rename the server without losing anything. I logged the account and the server out of Plex, renamed it, and logged back in, claimed the server, viola, done.
