Rename folder of movie but maintain metadata

Hello,

This is my first post here

I have a large number of movies that do not exist on any database, so I have added metadata manually for them.

I want to rename their folder names by appending the release year in parenthesis but if I do this, then Plex thinks it is a new movie and creates a new entry for it, trying to find metadata online for it.

How can I rename those folders, without having to type again all metadata for each one of those movies?

You probably can’t, but you can try this:

Try to copy a folder (and its content) and rename it to the desired format.
Then perform the library update and see if Plex has recognized the file as a duplicate, using its ‘bogohash’ value.
If that was successful, you can delete the ‘original’ folder and update the library once again and then empty the trash.

Another way would be to edit the path in the Plex database directly: [HowTo] Plex database modification - Moving media the right/wrong way

Or you could try to utilize this agent, to write your manual edits into Kodi-compatible .nfo files: [REL] Lambda (Local Assets-Metadata Double Agent) for Plex Metadata export)

Hello @OttoKerner, thanks for the reply.

The duplicate thing didn’t work.
I will try to edit the database directly, but that’s gonna need some time for research on my end, since I am not comfortable working with databases.

If I manage to do it, I’ll try to post a description here. However, would be good for Plex to have an option to change the file to which each entry is associated. Now, under Edit>info I can see the file name and path, but can’t change it.
