I apologize in advance, but after searching I wasn’t able to find the answer to my question.
I would like to rename the hard drive that my media files are on, but I’m not sure how to do that without losing the watched status of those files. The closest thing I found was this article, Move Media Content to a New Location | Plex Support, but it’s for “Moving Content to a New Location” and it doesn’t mention anything about if it will maintain the watched status.
The “move media content to a new location” procedure is exactly what you’re looking for. From Plex’ perspective the media is being moved to a new location (here: renamed HDD / library folder path).
Preferably refresh the library metadata before the change to ensure all items are matched using the library agent and there’s no stale records that might still be linked to an old agent. With that, Plex will recognize the files in the new location as “duplicates” of the existing entries and maintain their ratings/view states when “switching” them.
Thanks! I followed the instructions and where it says “Copy Content to the New Location” that is when I renamed the hard drive. Then I completed the rest of the steps and the status of the files remained intact.
